About The Position

The Manufacturing Engineer will be located in Plant 10, Whitehall Casting Operation, and support manufacturing through focused projects that improve throughput, reduce inventory, and lower operating expense. The role drives labor-cost reductions through cellular manufacturing and new or improved methods and equipment. It applies standard practices and techniques, adjusts and correlates data, identifies discrepancies, and takes corrective action. The engineer documents work, prepares technical notes and reports, and establishes internal and external customer contacts as required. The position develops manufacturing methods that consistently meet or exceed customer requirements and continually improves processes through better or new manufacturing methods, increased yields, and reduced labor content. It provides technical support for manufacturing processes, tooling, equipment, cell and standard-work development, scrap reduction, yield improvement, and daily floor operations. The role also emphasizes systems thinking, optimization, anticipation, continuous improvement, organization, influence, data-informed decisions, prioritization, and relationships across shifts and teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States; employment eligibility verification is required at hire. Visa sponsorship is unavailable.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Kaizen, continuous improvement, and formal problem solving.
  • Strong analytical, verbal, and written communication skills, including Standard Operating Procedure development.
  • Ability to conduct and analyze time studies to develop standardized work and establish labor standards.
  • Ability to create capacity-analysis tools that capture machine cycle times, workloads, and OEE.
  • Experience implementing improved manufacturing processes and equipment, including defining scope of work, researching technology, obtaining vendor quotes, setting budgets, installing and starting up equipment, and managing improvement projects.
  • Experience defining and implementing cell and plant layouts and ergonomically designed workstations.
  • Experience with export-control regulations for commercial and/or military shipments across international borders.
  • Ability to use observation to eliminate non-value-added waste, reduce operation cycle times, and analyze product flow.
  • Ability to provide technical leadership and guidance to manufacturing areas through cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Experience with 2D and/or 3D CAD.

Responsibilities

  • Develop manufacturing methods to produce parts that consistently meet or exceed customer requirements.
  • Improve and develop manufacturing processes to increase yields and reduce labor content.
  • Conceive, evaluate, and implement problem-solving activities, cost-reduction initiatives, and part or process improvements.
  • Investigate and analyze the root causes of external customer escapes and develop and implement corrective action plans.
  • Collect data and respond to customer requests as general technical support.
  • Develop material, scrap, and labor costs for quotation cost modeling.
  • Attend NPI meetings and provide input based on customer specifications for BOMs, routings, and milestone plans.
  • Provide manufacturing support fixtures and dies and contribute to tooling development and build.
  • Provide manufacturing support for prototypes, instructions, and data analysis during process development.
  • Troubleshoot, validate, and qualify equipment; support equipment design, build, and procurement.
  • Conduct time studies and develop cell layouts and standard work.
  • Collect and analyze data for part-number scrap reduction and yield improvement, and attend QSI meetings.
  • Complete daily process walk-throughs and collect and analyze data to support the manufacturing floor.
  • Analyze shift labor efficiencies and effectiveness, conduct cost modeling, and implement tooling changes to reduce standard labor and process time.
  • Review scrap in all areas for deviant-part review and disposition.
  • Document work, prepare technical notes, reports, and other documents, and establish internal and external customer contacts as required.
