Manufacturing Engineer (WCM Engineer I)
About The Position
The Manufacturing Engineer (WCM Engineer I) role at Magna involves applying statistical methods and mathematical calculations to optimize manufacturing processes, determine staff requirements, and establish production standards. This position is responsible for coordinating quality control to resolve production issues, enhance product reliability, and minimize costs. The engineer will also confer with vendors, staff, and management on various aspects of production, draft equipment layouts for efficiency, and review production schedules and specifications. Communication with management and users to develop production and design standards, as well as estimating production costs and the impact of design changes, are key functions of this role.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in technical related discipline or 10 years related automotive experience with sound understanding of BIW build fit & function.
- Understanding in the following areas: die / die process, assembly tooling, welding & sealer applications, CMM & datum alignment, data processing & reporting, customer tolerancing concepts.
- Working knowledge of CATIA V4/V5.
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Power Point, Project, Word.
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Strong leadership skills.
Responsibilities
- Apply statistical methods and perform mathematical calculations to determine manufacturing processes, staff requirements, and production standards.
- Coordinate quality control objectives and activities to resolve production problems, maximize product reliability, and minimize cost.
- Confer with vendors, staff, and management personnel regarding purchases, procedures, product specifications, manufacturing capabilities, and project status.
- Draft and design layout of equipment, materials, and workspace to illustrate maximum efficiency, using drafting tools and computer.
- Review production schedules, engineering specifications, orders, and related information to obtain knowledge of manufacturing methods, procedures, and activities.
- Communicate with management and user personnel to develop production and design standards.
- Estimate production cost and effect of product design changes for management review, action, and control.
