The Manufacturing Engineer develops and implements the manufacturing processes required to insure achievement of daily, weekly and quarterly performance goals in the area safety, quality, throughput, delinquencies, productivity, first pass yield, and variable cost. This position typically spends 80% of work time on the production floor and 20% of work time in an office environment. Identifies, prioritizes, and implements process improvements that will deliver achievement of daily, weekly and quarterly performance metrics in the area of safety, quality, throughput, delinquencies, productivity, first pass yield, and variable cost. This is done by utilizing statistical analysis, Lean/Six Sigma tools, acceptable engineering techniques, and process knowledge. Assemble teams of experts to determine root cause of top failure modes, determine and implement corrective actions, and conduct follow-up to ensure compliance and the continued achievement of performance targets. Partner with manufacturing, quality, planning, maintenance and purchasing leaders to manage, direct and coordinate all process activities needed to maximize productivity and minimize cost while achieving safety, quality and throughput targets. Establish sequencing, inspection criteria, tooling, gages and fixtures needed to produce products that meet customer requirements. Develop standard work instructions needed to improve safety, increase quality, reduce machine downtime, increase productivity, reduce scrap and eliminate delinquencies. Aid in developing and implementing capital improvement projects to provide cost savings and improve throughput. Work closely with finance and materials management to ensure correct manufacturing costs, process routings, and bill of materials. Ensure employees are trained on production procedures and practices. Work with purchasing and suppliers to improve process reliability and lower costs. Provide manufacturing expertise if and when problems arise. Stay abreast of technological advancements and process improvements, which may impact production. Work with maintenance and manufacturing to ensure all equipment and machinery are set, maintained and adjusted to continually produce high products. Maintain system documentation for processes and procedures. Support MRB activities as directed Foster a “Safety 24/7” culture; driving safety initiatives to ensure zero safety related incidents annually. Other duties as assigned.
