About The Position

The Assembly Manufacturing Engineer develops, documents, and improves production assembly processes to meet safety, quality, delivery, and cost objectives. In this role you will provide day-to-day engineering support to assembly operations, lead process improvements, and drive robust work instructions, tooling/fixture readiness, and problem resolution through data-driven, immediate, well-founded actions. The successful candidate will have a high degree of business acumen and will be market savvy. They should have well-developed interpersonal skills as well as show a keen interest and knowledge of manufacturing managements processes. Due to the close working relationship within the company, it is important that this individual has excellent organizational skills, be self-motivated, and be able to effectively interface at a variety of levels. It is also essential that the individual has strong verbal and written communication skills and be able to lead and motivate others while managing multiple projects. The ideal candidate will be hands-on and possess a high level of drive, integrity and energy. The individual should have the ability to motivate peers and to work toward common objectives through communication and understanding. It is also important that this individual has good quantitative analytical skills.

Requirements

  • BSME/BSIE (or related) and at least 3 years of manufacturing experience supporting assembly operations (or at least 6 years equivalent experience).
  • Provide/explain examples of past projects/successes and the benefits provided
  • Ability to define and implement assembly processes and process tooling that support safety, quality, and productivity objectives (fixtures, jigs, gauges, error-proofing).
  • Demonstrated project management skills and ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment.
  • Ability to excel in a high-volume production atmosphere with a strong sense of urgency and attention to detail.
  • Experience with process documentation and basic CAD capability for tooling/fixture concepts (NX preferred but not required).

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, standard work, line balancing, and continuous improvement methods, preferred certification
  • Familiarity with automated assembly, error-proofing, and/or robotics is a plus.
  • Familiarity with machining operations and part characteristics that impact assembly is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, evaluate, and improve manual and semi-automated assembly methods, utilizing knowledge of assembly sequencing, standard work, ergonomic principles, tooling and fixture design, and production equipment capabilities. This activity covers a variety of product assembly, inspection, and functional test processes.
  • Develop and maintain safe, capable, and repeatable assembly processes with the utmost integrity and adherence to Quality policy and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Create and maintain clear assembly work instructions, standard work, visual aids, and training materials to support consistent execution on the line.
  • Support production schedules by ensuring assembly line readiness (people/process/equipment), driving productivity and quality initiatives, and managing assigned projects within budget and timing constraints.
  • Define and validate assembly process parameters and quality controls (e.g., torque/fastener controls, gauging, in-process checks), coordinating with Quality on control plans and PFMEA updates as needed.
  • Train and coach production personnel on assembly methods, product knowledge, workmanship standards, and safe tool use; provide hands-on support during new process introductions and changes.
  • Drive continuous improvement of assembly flow, cycle time, labor utilization, scrap/rework, and First Time Yield (FTY) using Lean tools and structured problem solving.
  • Review engineering drawings, BOMs, and specifications; partner with Design Engineering to recommend changes that improve assembly robustness, serviceability, and manufacturability.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve recurring assembly issues and downtime drivers; lead root cause analysis and corrective actions (containment, permanent fix, validation) to prevent recurrence.
  • Assist cross-functional support teams consisting of Quality Engineers, Industrial Engineers, Buyer/Planners, Maintenance, and Manufacturing by the following:
  • Encourage and maintain a safe work environment
  • Support site initiatives for Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing and productivity improvements
  • Provide direction, leadership, and technical support for production shop
  • Ensure production KPI’s are maintained by providing Engineering support to reduce downtime and enhance production output
  • Assist in other projects as needed
