Manufacturing Engineer

DWYER INSTRUMENTS, LLCMiddleton, WI

About The Position

The Manufacturing Engineer works with the Value Stream team to identify and apply continuous improvement methods to enhance manufacturing quality, reliability, or cost-effectiveness. This role involves designing, developing, testing, sourcing, and cost-justifying tools, machinery, and equipment for recommended manufacturing methods. The engineer will support senior engineers in research, design, and development of manufacturing processes, including welding schedules, production flow, assembly methods, production equipment, and machining. Key responsibilities include project management of capital equipment projects, applying failure analysis to determine root causes and develop solutions, evaluating equipment requirements, performing cost analyses, and coordinating pre-production activities such as sample evaluation, design qualification, and prototype production. The role also involves providing documentation and detailed drawings for manufacturing and assembly, preparing documentation for new manufacturing processes or engineering procedures, and contributing to the development and implementation of best practice Lean vision, policies, processes, and procedures. Additionally, the engineer will assist technicians and/or maintenance with troubleshooting and assembly of machines and equipment.

Requirements

  • Experience with and knowledge of solid modeling, SolidWorks or AutoCAD engineering design software, and engineering materials and their properties.
  • Active Listening – Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
  • Communication Skills – The ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally with all levels of supervision on the status of jobs.
  • Complex Problem Solving – Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Deductive Reasoning – The ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.
  • Engineering and Technology – Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.
  • Information Ordering – The ability to arrange things or actions in a certain order or pattern according to a specific rule or set of rules (e.g., patterns of numbers, letters, words, pictures, mathematical operations).
  • Judgment and Decision Making – Considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
  • Mechanical – Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Problem Sensitivity – The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.
  • Production and Processing – Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
  • Systems Analysis – Determining how a system should work and how changes in conditions, operations, and the environment will affect outcomes.
  • Troubleshooting – Determining causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it.
  • Proficient with design software to perform engineering and design tasks.
