About The Position

The New Product Introduction Engineer is responsible for the effective implementation of new product designs into manufacturing. The NPI Engineer is the lead engineering liaison between product development and operations. They provide engineering DFX expertise for Operations, new product training, and develop the new manufacturing processes for product introductions.

Requirements

  • Minimum 4-year BS degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Manufacturing) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3-5 Years of applied experience as a Manufacturing or NPI Engineer, in a Manufacturing or Industrial environment.
  • Must possess engineering level understanding of manufacturing processes, electro-mechanical design, and new product development depending upon education and related experience background.
  • Must be computer literate in Microsoft Office and Windows® applications.
  • Must have proven experience demonstrating NPI ownership, excellent problem-solving skills, and creativity in developing sound technical solutions to business problems.
  • Must have consistently demonstrated the ability to solve and document complex cross departmental issues using structured problem-solving tools.
  • Must be able to work individually or in teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills for internal and external customers.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with co-workers and customers.
  • Effective project management and organizational skills with particular attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Operations representation and contact on new product develop project teams.
  • Works with product development teams to improve product designs through Alpha, Beta, and Pilot prototype/production builds.
  • Lead Operations interface with other NPI support functions such as Quality, Supply Chain, Reliability, Supplier Quality, and Service.
  • Engage key operations team members at appropriate time to develop material replenishment plan (Planners), manpower plan (Area Administrators), training and production launch (Manufacturing Engineer)
  • Responsible for manufacturing process development of new products.
  • Drive DFX methodologies with cross functional product development teams. DFX defined as Design for: Safety, Manufacturability, Quality, Assembly, Test, Reliability, etc.
  • Construct, document, and update individual project plan(s) in relation to broader product development team plan.
  • Execute Operations tasks from the Accelerated Product Development (APD) process.
  • Work with manufacturing product test application team to define test requirements, and implement end-of-line test system and procedures for Production.
  • Leads the product industrialization transition from engineering prototype to manufacturing ready.
  • Participates in development team Visual Project Management (VPM) events.
  • Utilize Voniter Business System (VBS) tools such as Standard Work and Product Preparation Process (3P) for manufacturing process development.
  • Lead cross-functional development of Process Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) and process controls. Support other FMEAs as required.
  • Lead development of standard work and manufacturing training for new products.
  • Execute capital appropriations for new equipment as required for process development.
  • Responsible for implementation of engineering change notices (ECNs) for NPI.
  • Communicate NPI project updates to Operations stakeholders and leadership to ensure awareness, and address concerns.
