About The Position

As the Manufacturing Engineer in our Manchester, CT facility, you will help support the Engineering Team and Sheet Metal department. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to learn and grow skills in various disciplines. i.e. sheet metal forming, manual and CNC machining, tool design, modeling, drafting, additive manufacturing (3D printing), Inspection methods, welding, brazing, non-destructive testing, process improvement, product requirements, etc.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of process/manufacturing engineering experience in applying advanced engineering principles in a sheet metal forming environment required including tool design and hydraulic press setup and operation
  • Solid analytical skills and the ability to define and brainstorm solutions to problems
  • Strong computer skills including MS Office
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to function effectively in a team environment, collaborate with other departments, and work independently
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, metallurgy or materials science preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Bridgeport and CNC mills is strongly preferred
  • Aerospace industry experience or exposure preferred
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing methods , concepts, processes, and systems
  • Training in Lean Six Sigma / Continuous Improvement Tools preferred
  • Product prototyping, qualification and/or testing experience preferred
  • Familiarity with ISO 9000 or AS9100 quality standards preferred
  • Working knowledge of CAD software; SolidWorks, Mastercam, and/or NX is preferred
  • Working knowledge of 3D printers is preferred
  • Working knowledge of MBD is preferred
  • Familiarity with ERP systems is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Support daily operations and troubleshoot production issues
  • Evaluate and improve existing manufacturing processes and products
  • Design and modify fixtures, tooling, and gauging
  • Produce, update, and review engineering drawings and op sheets
  • Document key processes and train operators to standardized work
  • Disposition nonconforming material and perform RCCA
  • Research and develop new processes in accordance with customer specifications.
  • Recommend, justify, and implement Capital Expenditures and equipment upgrades
  • Participate in Contract Review and risk analysis
  • Review and interpret customer drawings, specifications, and PO requirements and incorporate them into manufacturing processes
  • Participate in PPAP, PFMEA, and creation of internal and external flow downs
  • Develop Bill of Materials and Bill of Operations for new product
  • Interact with customers, operators, sales reps and vendors
  • Evaluate data and product specifications to determine the feasibility of product proposal.
  • Analyze data and reports to determine if product meets specifications
  • Reduce waste and increase capacity/efficiency through application of continuous improvement tools (i.e. structured problem solving, setup reduction, organization and standardization of machining centers, mistake-proofing in tool/fixture design)
