About The Position

The High Reliability and RF Group (HRR) is the power systems division of Microchip Corporation and a leading designer, manufacturer, and marketer of relays and contactors in Power Management. We have an opening at our Garden Grove, California facility for a Manufacturing Engineer to work on testing and design verification for our line of mechanical relay products. We place great emphasis on validated solutions that work right the first time. This engineering position supports design, design review, prototyping, specification review, material verification, validation, and qualification testing.

Requirements

  • Must have a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or materials engineering.
  • Prefer proficiency, background, knowledge, and 0–3 years of experience with electrical or electromechanical device design.
  • Solid knowledge of Excel is required.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and dynamic simulation programs such as ProE/SolidWorks or ANSYS simulation is a plus.
  • U.S. Export Controls Requirements: This job requires access to technology, materials, software or hardware that is controlled by the export laws of the United States. Candidates are required to provide proof of either US citizenship, Permanent US residency or classification as a protected individual as defined in 8 USC 1324b (a) (3).

Nice To Haves

  • A strong electro-mechanical process background, good understanding of analog mechanical design and electrical circuitry, and experience with small component manufacturing are highly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Ability to creatively utilize existing resources to facilitate collection, presentation, and evaluation of data required to verify conformance to key design parameters and identification of potential discrepancies in electrical and mechanical performance of electro-mechanical devices.
  • Perform root cause analysis and diagnostic data mining, and implement corrective actions associated with nonconforming conditions of supplier parts.
  • Where appropriate, disposition parts in collaboration with engineering and prescribe appropriate rework considering product risk, safety, and efficacy.
  • Review process documents, engineering drawings, and product specifications, and update as required or as requested by production and approved by the Engineering Manager.
  • Propose design modifications to improve reliability, performance, and cost as required or as requested by the Engineering Manager.
  • Investigate manufacturing issues and tooling discrepancies, propose solutions, and work with machinists and/or toolmakers on the fabrication or modification of new tooling.
  • Design jigs, fixtures, work platforms, various hand tools, and specialized tools as required for small component fabrication.
  • Perform duties with minimal supervision. Initiative and independent work execution are required.
  • Familiarity and working knowledge of metal alloys and their properties and grades of OFC, brass, gold, silver, bronze, cadmium, low carbon, austenitic, ferritic, duplex, and martensitic steels.
  • May be required to assemble relay parts on the production floor for extended periods in support of production.
  • May be required to adjust relays and take electrical data for extended periods in support of production.
  • May be required to run device testing for extended periods in support of QPL maintenance testing and/or production.
