About The Position

Plans, directs, coordinates, and establishes manufacturing processes in a manufacturing plant. This role involves analyzing workforce utilization, space requirements, and workflow, designing equipment and workspace layouts for maximum efficiency, and conferring with design staff on product design and tooling for efficient production methods. The Manufacturing Engineer determines product specifications for equipment, materials, tooling, or parts purchase, contacts suppliers for production equipment, and performs acceptance evaluations. They are responsible for the implementation of equipment from delivery to handoff to production, including documentation, preventive maintenance plans, and training. The role also involves estimating production times, staffing requirements, and costs, applying knowledge of Elastomeric materials to develop processing parameters, and providing process parameter documentation to production. Collaboration with management, design, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities and production schedules is key. The position supports day-to-day production, involves team meetings for improvement identification, and works on new programs (APQP tasks). Responsibilities include creating procedures, PFMEA's, and workflows to meet TS 16949 requirements, utilizing statistical methods and SPC charts, estimating future manufacturing requirements, and corresponding with customers. The role leads projects for existing production and new programs using APQP and Lean principles to meet timing, budget, and performance goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree (BA) from a four year college or university or equivalent experience and at least four years of related experience and/or training in high volume manufacturing environment.
  • Successfully managed projects with more than $200,000 investment from planning to launch
  • Successfully applied lean principles such as Kaizen, 5s, SS
  • Successfully applied VAVE and contributed to continuous improvement
  • Ability to multi task and prioritize
  • Successfully lead teams and team events
  • Ability to travel (nationally and internationally) as well as work flexible hours
  • Understanding of automotive customer demands
  • Experience in APQP
  • Ability to justify Investments (ROI/Justification)
  • Understanding of ergonomic principles
  • Engineering and trouble shooting experience with automatic equipment
  • Understanding of Rubber Injection Molding
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to read and understand prints including GD&T’s
  • Application of metric system
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical documents and/or procedures, legal documents, general business periodicals, professional journals, or government regulations.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers.

Responsibilities

  • Analyzes and plans work force utilization, space requirements, workflow, and designs layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency.
  • Confers with planning and design staff concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods.
  • Determines product specifications for the purchase of equipment, materials, tooling or parts, according to specifications and quality standards.
  • Contacts potential suppliers for production equipment and makes the final technical choice.
  • Follows the evolution of the equipment and performs acceptance evaluation accordingly.
  • Responsible for the implementation of the equipment on the floor from delivery to hand off to production.
  • Responsible for documentation, preventive maintenance plans and training.
  • Estimates production times, staffing requirements, and related costs on old and new productions to provide information for management decisions.
  • Applies knowledge of Elastomeric materials to develop processing parameters and assist production if problems are encountered.
  • Provide documentation of process parameters to production.
  • Confers with management, design and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes.
  • Supports day to day production.
  • Involvement in team meetings with production workers to help determine and develop areas of improvement.
  • Works on new programs as assigned (APQP tasks).
  • Responsible for creating procedures, PFMEA’s, and work flows in an effort to meeting TS 16949 requirements.
  • Estimates future manufacturing requirements and potential, helps to ensure that the quality of the product produced meets all customer requirements.
  • Corresponds with Customers.
  • Leads projects for existing production and new programs using APQP and Lean principles to meet timing and budget as well as performance.
