Manufacturing Engineer, II, Payloads

Blue Origin•Southgate, WA

About The Position

This role is part of the Project Formulation team in Advanced Concepts and Enterprise Engineering (ACE), supporting Blue Origin’s vision of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. The Project Formulation team is an innovative, fast-paced group of experts covering power systems, simulation and environments, thermal and fluids management, guidance, navigation, and control (GNC), autonomy, command and control, data handling and instrumentation, electrical integration and avionics, and propulsion. As a part of Formulation team, you will have access to cutting edge tools and technologies that will shape the future of space industry. We thrive in a results-oriented, prototype-driven, and fail-fast environment. In this role you will own the development of system manufacturing through the entire product lifecycle from concept through production. This is a builder's role. You'll split time between the desk (process documentation, DFM feedback, supplier coordination) and the floor (assembly, troubleshooting, prototype builds). We're looking for someone who thrives in ambiguity, takes ownership of problems, and ships hardware.

  • Experience with tWO/mWO documentation and execution
  • Able to navigate Blue’s MRP demand process.

Responsibilities

  • Author work instructions, manufacturing BOMs, and process documentation for prototype and qualification hardware
  • Provide DFM/DFA feedback to design teams; drive producibility improvements that reduce cost and cycle time
  • Support manufacturing floor operations: troubleshooting, NCR generation and closure, lineside engineering support
  • Design and procure tooling, fixtures, and assembly aids
  • Build and test prototype systems, engineering demos, and early flight hardware
  • Develop manufacturing plans defining flow through fabrication, assembly, test, and integration
  • Coordinate with suppliers to ensure hardware meets requirements, schedule, and budget
  • Support NPI activities including build plans, duration estimates, and manufacturing readiness reviews
  • Create tWO and mWOs to support build and execution of payload.
