Persistent Systems•New York, NY
•$146,000 - $182,000•Onsite

About The Position

Persistent Systems is seeking a hands-on, cross-functional Manufacturing Engineer for its Manhattan production facility. The role is responsible for the company’s manufacturing processes, both in-house and at external manufacturing partners, and for helping ensure production goals are met. The engineer collaborates with engineering, supply chain, operations, and quality teams and works alongside an established team of manufacturing engineers. The ideal candidate brings practical mechanical, electrical, hardware, and systems engineering knowledge, along with strong troubleshooting and continuous improvement skills. The position owns production readiness and engineering-to-production handover; reviews product designs for manufacturability, complexity, and yield; and develops or improves manufacturing processes, test equipment, tooling, and production methods. It evaluates manufacturing performance and drives corrective actions, with particular attention to yield, on-time delivery, lean manufacturing, cost, cycle time, capacity, and schedule risks. The role also establishes preventative maintenance and calibration requirements for critical equipment and tooling, and troubleshoots electro-mechanical products and hardware interface test systems. The base pay range is $146,000 to $182,000 per year, depending on individual qualifications. The role is eligible for a yearly discretionary bonus. Persistent Systems offers medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance; paid sick time and vacation time; flexible spending accounts; a 401(k) plan with company match; fitness membership reimbursement; tuition assistance; mental health benefits; and pet discounts. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until the role is filled.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of direct experience in an electro-mechanical manufacturing environment.
  • Experience developing and implementing process improvements.
  • Hands-on experience with assembly, testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience using CAD and manufacturing methods to create tooling, fixtures, and prototypes.
  • Must have United States security clearance or the ability to obtain United States security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical, computer, or mechanical engineering.
  • 5 or more years of direct manufacturing experience, including product launch and obsolescence.
  • Product design or product ownership experience.
  • Experience with Lean Six Sigma methods and systems.
  • Experience in the Aerospace and/or Defense industry.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 quality management standards.
  • Software programming and troubleshooting experience.
  • Experience with environmental product testing and methods, such as ingress protection, shock and vibration, and thermal stress.

Responsibilities

  • Own production readiness and engineering-to-production handover, ensuring documentation, training, tools, equipment, and procedures are established and verified before product release.
  • Review and advise on product designs for manufacturability, complexity, and yield, and drive closure of critical barriers to production.
  • Use value stream mapping to identify, understand, and minimize production bottlenecks and plan future processes.
  • Partner with Product Development to define and create manufacturing processes and test equipment for new and existing products.
  • Own complex in-house and external manufacturing processes.
  • Work with Quality and Operations to analyze manufacturing performance using relevant KPIs, particularly production yield and on-time delivery, and drive corrective actions.
  • Optimize production output through lean manufacturing and waste elimination.
  • Develop manufacturing methods and process improvements to reduce cost and cycle time.
  • Evaluate products and manufacturing processes for standardization, reliability, cost, and long-term production efficiency opportunities.
  • Monitor production performance, identify capacity constraints and schedule risks, and communicate performance gaps and corrective action plans to Operations leadership.
  • Establish and implement preventative maintenance and calibration requirements for critical equipment, systems, and tooling.
  • Troubleshoot electro-mechanical products and hardware interface test systems, implementing corrective actions to minimize interruptions and prevent recurrence.
