About The Position

Joby Aviation is seeking a passionate Manufacturing Engineer to join our Electronics Manufacturing Engineering team in San Carlos, CA. In this role, you will support the production of Electronic Assemblies, Pilot Inceptors, Environmental Control Systems, and the Charge Port Assembly. The ideal candidate is highly organized and self-driven, with a strong foundation in mechanical design, design for manufacturability, process development, and quality control. As a Manufacturing Engineer at Joby, you will see your ideas go from concept to reality in a fast-paced, high-impact environment.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent
  • 5+ years of relevant manufacturing or production engineering experience
  • Proficiency in mechanical design, including fixture and assembly tooling design
  • Demonstrated experience writing manufacturing work instructions and designing ergonomic manual workstations
  • Ability to interpret mechanical drawings and assemblies, including GD&T
  • Hands-on experience across both prototype and production manufacturing environments
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks, CATIA, or similar CAD software
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proven ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams

Nice To Haves

  • M.S. in manufacturing, or mechanical engineering.
  • Experience in aerospace avionics, electric vehicles, consumer electronics, or medical devices
  • Experience in manufacturing in a regulated environment such as 14 CFR Part 21, ISO9001, ISO 13485, TS16949, or equivalent
  • Familiarity with aerospace manufacturing, processing, and materials
  • Experience in one or more of the following fields: Electric motor assembly, complex mechanical assembly, electronics assembly, inverter assembly, cooling system assembly, or lithium Ion Battery module/pack assembly.

Responsibilities

  • Develop manufacturing processes, assembly fixturing, tooling, and equipment to support both prototype and production builds
  • Design and optimize full production line layouts and workstations with a focus on safety, ergonomics, quality, and efficiency
  • Author clear, detailed manufacturing work instructions to ensure process consistency and repeatability
  • Lead process development using statistical methods, including process capability studies, gauge repeatability and reproducibility (GR&R), and design of experiments (DoE)
  • Ensure products and processes adhere to quality and regulatory compliance standards
  • Partner with Design Engineers throughout prototype builds and new product introduction (NPI)
  • Drive continuous improvement of existing production lines — processes, fixturing, tooling, and automated equipment — by applying Lean Manufacturing principles to reduce waste and improve safety, ergonomics, and material flow
