About The Position

Modatek Systems is looking for a Manufacturing Engineer who wants to do more than maintain today's processes. This role combines hands-on manufacturing engineering with the opportunity to help bring new technology into a high-volume automotive plant. You will design, improve, and launch assembly processes while helping identify, pilot, and scale Factory of the Future solutions, including AI-enabled analytics, automation, robotics, machine vision, connected equipment, and digital manufacturing tools. You will take ideas from concept to production, solve real shop floor problems, and see the impact of your work in safety, quality, throughput, cost, and team effectiveness.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in Mechanical, Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • 3+ years of related experience in a lean or advanced manufacturing environment.
  • Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and the ability to read and interpret CAD drawings.
  • Practical experience with project management, costing and quoting.
  • Mechanically inclined, with a practical understanding of equipment, tooling and fixtures, and comfort troubleshooting them directly on the floor.
  • Strong hands-on problem solving, ownership and the ability to turn ideas into implemented solutions.
  • Curiosity and confidence learning new technology.
  • Clear communication and the ability to work effectively across technical and operations teams.
  • Flexibility to support occasional off-shift work, overtime or travel during critical launches, installations or customer needs.

Nice To Haves

  • Automotive assembly experience is an asset.
  • AutoCAD experience is an asset.
  • Experience or exposure to AI and data analytics, automation and controls, robotics, machine vision, IoT or Industry 4.0 is an asset, not a requirement.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build and improve assembly processes for full perimeter frames, front and rear cradles, and rear twist axles.
  • Identify and implement smart manufacturing opportunities, including AI and data analytics, robotics and automation, machine vision, connected equipment and IoT, digital workflows and other emerging manufacturing technologies.
  • Use production data, time and motion studies, cycle time analysis, line balancing and manpower studies to remove bottlenecks and improve flow.
  • Partner across Operations, Quality, Maintenance, Tooling, IT/OT, suppliers and customers to improve safety, ergonomics, quality, productivity and equipment reliability.
  • Develop project scopes, cost estimates, quotes, capital requirements and business cases for tooling, equipment and technology investments.
  • Oversee tooling and equipment design, build, approval, relocation, installation and production readiness.
  • Support structured problem solving for production and quality issues, and drive sustainable corrective actions.
  • Coordinate customer approved engineering changes, including communication, parts, processes, tooling and documentation updates.
  • Maintain plant layouts and engineering documentation and help standardize successful solutions so they can be scaled.
