About The Position

Rock West Composites, Inc. has an exciting opportunity for a Manufacturing Engineer. Rock West Composites, Inc. is an engineering and manufacturing company dedicated to providing innovative solutions for commercial and government customers. This position is located in San Diego, Ca and reports to our Manufacturing Engineering Manager. The Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for driving process improvements, supporting new product introductions, and ensuring manufacturing efficiency, quality, and safety across all production programs. Senior-level engineers may lead project teams, mentor junior engineers, and oversee complex process development and customer-facing initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering; Mechanical, Aerospace, Design, Structural, or Industrial Engineering or 15+ years of equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years of experience in composite manufacturing engineering
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks or similar CAD software and understanding of GD&T.
  • Knowledge of ERP/MRP systems and data management tools.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Project, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Must be a U.S. Person (U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with composite materials and manufacturing processes (e.g., autoclave, lay-up, RTM, compression molding, bonding) preferred.
  • Hands-on fabrication and assembly experience a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain manufacturing methods and processes for new and existing products.
  • Create and manage engineering documentation, including BOMs, routers, travelers, work instructions, and process specifications.
  • Support daily production needs and troubleshoot manufacturing challenges to maintain product quality and efficiency.
  • Evaluate materials, equipment, and tooling to ensure optimal use of resources.
  • Participate in the design and development of tooling, fixtures, and jigs to improve manufacturability and repeatability.
  • Recommend and implement process improvements to reduce cost, cycle time, and waste.
  • Support new product introduction (NPI) activities, from concept through full-rate production.
  • Address nonconformance (MRB) conditions and implement corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with program management, quality, design engineering, and production teams to resolve technical challenges.
  • Prepare cost estimates, bids, and proposals in support of new business opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with AS9100 and company quality management systems.
  • Maintain a safe and organized work environment in accordance with company policies.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers and technicians; lead cross-functional initiatives for process optimization.
