About The Position

The Canadian Strategic Missions Corporation (CSMC) is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to support its NGEN manufacturing program. This role is crucial for turning cutting-edge designs into repeatable, certifiable, production-ready systems, with a focus on manufacturability, process development, and supplier readiness for pressure-boundary and reactor-adjacent components. The engineer will bridge design, supply chain, and production execution to ensure CSMC’s reactor hardware can be built safely, efficiently, and at scale. This includes hands-on DFM for various components, supporting prototype builds, first-article qualification, and manufacturing readiness for NGEN milestones. The ideal candidate thrives in fast-moving environments, brings structure to ambiguity, and can drive manufacturability for frontier technologies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering, or related field
  • 4+ years in manufacturing, production, or industrial engineering
  • Hands-on experience with prototype builds, machining, fabrication, or assembly
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, GD&T, tolerances, and process controls
  • Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced, mission-driven engineering environment
  • Legally authorized to work in Canada
  • Able to maintain valid work authorization throughout employment
  • Able to obtain and maintain Reliability Status or higher
  • Able to provide 5+ years of continuous, verifiable background history
  • Willing to undergo identity, employment, education, and criminal checks
  • Candidates must be eligible to undergo a FIRA, which may include review of foreign citizenship(s), recent foreign residence, immediate family ties abroad, and foreign financial, business, or government affiliations
  • Eligible to access Controlled Goods
  • Eligible to access export-controlled technical data
  • Willing to undergo additional screening if required

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in nuclear, aerospace, defence, or other regulated manufacturing environments
  • Exposure to pressure vessels, ASME BPVC, welding processes, or NDE
  • Experience supporting NPI/NPD from prototype through production
  • Familiarity with PFMEA, control plans, and structured process qualification
  • Experience with PLM, MES, or ERP systems
  • Understanding of manufacturing requirements for high-integrity, safety-critical hardware

Responsibilities

  • Lead DFM/DFA reviews for pressure-boundary components, welded assemblies, and machined parts
  • Translate engineering models into manufacturable, inspectable, repeatable hardware
  • Develop and optimize manufacturing processes, work instructions, and build documentation
  • Support prototype builds, first-article inspections, and production ramp-up
  • Identify manufacturing risks and lead structured root-cause analysis and corrective actions
  • Develop tooling, fixtures, and test setups to improve repeatability and throughput
  • Collaborate with Quality Engineering on inspection plans, PFMEA, control plans, and NCR resolution
  • Analyze production data to identify bottlenecks, yield loss, and process variability
  • Work with suppliers and CM partners to ensure manufacturability, weldability, and quality compliance
  • Support NGEN deliverables related to manufacturing readiness, process capability, and supply-chain qualification
  • Ensure all manufacturing activities comply with safety, regulatory, and quality system requirements
