About The Position

This internship offers the opportunity to contribute to the transformation of Volvo Trucks and the transport industry by supporting the development, launch, and continuous improvement of production processes. Interns will gain hands-on experience on the shop floor, working with next-gen technologies and collaborative teams to shape sustainable transport and infrastructure solutions for the future.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field at an accredited school and have completed 30 semester hours prior to the start of the internship.
  • Minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.75.
  • Strong interest in automotive manufacturing, welding technologies, and surface treatment processes (e.g., e-coating, painting, sealing).
  • Interest in Lean manufacturing and process improvement.
  • Comfortable working both on the shop floor and with data/tools (Excel, etc.).
  • Proactive, curious, and eager to learn in a hands-on environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-driven and eager to learn in a fast-paced environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of CAD software (e.g., CATIA, NX, SolidWorks) and familiarity with PLM systems is a plus.
  • PowerBI is also a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Support engineers in designing and improving manufacturing processes, tooling, and equipment.
  • Assist with data analysis to evaluate cycle time, throughput, and production performance.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, applying Lean principles to increase efficiency and reduce waste.
  • Help develop process documentation, work instructions, and standard work.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Production, Quality, and Design Engineering.
  • Support prototype builds and new product launches, contributing to successful ramp-up into production.
  • Observe and identify opportunities to improve safety, ergonomics, and workflow.
