About The Position

Manufacturing Engineer III Reporting to the Lead Manufacturing Engineer, this position will be responsible for leading projects that drive continuous improvement of our safety, quality, delivery, and cost through the research and implementation of new equipment, design of new fixtures, and launching of new products/processes into operations. This position will also be responsible for supporting operations and helping resolve issues as they arise. As a Manufacturing Engineer III you will: Lead manufacturing engineering projects. Create detailed project plans with defined scopes of work and detailed timelines for development, production, validation and launch. Responsible and accountable for on-time and successful delivery of projects. Lead research and development of new manufacturing equipment and processes to deliver improved safety, delivery, quality and cost. Primary resource for creating specs for complex new equipment that meets G&W manufacturing needs and builds necessary business case to justify purchase. Uses 3D modeling to design complex fixtures to solve ergonomic issues, improve takt times, and improve product quality. Participates in new product design reviews to identify opportunities for improved product manufacturability, reduced manufacturing cost, and improved process reliability. Will participate in DFMEA creation and will lead PFMEA creation. Leads implementation of new products and product lines from prototype to launch through design of fixturing, creation of cell layout, purchasing of equipment, documentation and training. Assures product and process quality by designing testing methods, testing finished product, analyzing process capabilities, establishing standards, and confirming manufacturing processes. Conducts/leads Process Mapping, FMEA, Kaizans and 8 Step Problem Solving, Quality Control Plan development, and initiatives to promote and ensure that processes are continuously improved Identifies opportunities for improvement through Gemba walks and analysis of process data. Support, develop and improve automated processes used by operations Develop and improve work instructions and training Trains and mentors manufacturing engineers and support staff to work to their full potential. Support production as issues arise. Assist with other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Holds a Bachelors Degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, or related Engineering field
  • Has 5+ years experience working in manufacturing environment.
  • Is computer proficient
  • Proven success leading the implementation of transformative equipment and processes in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with implementing lean manufacturing in an organization
  • Proven experience using advanced problem-solving techniques and root cause analysis
  • Possesses 3D CAD experience (Creo preferred)

Nice To Haves

  • Six sigma or other problem-solving certification
  • 2D CAD (AutoCAD preferred) experience for layouts
  • Experience with injection molding processes
  • Previous experience designing fixtures that involve pneumatics, hydraulics and electric motors.
  • Familiarity using data analysis tools (Excel, Power BI, JMP, Minitab, QIMacros) to identify problems and drive improvements
  • Experience working with ERP system (especially JDE) and MES systems is a plus
