This role serves as the primary manufacturing engineering authority for complex DoD weapon system production, including electro-mechanical, cabling/harnesses, and precision-machined assemblies. The position involves leading the development, qualification, and continuous improvement of advanced manufacturing processes, tooling concepts, and production technologies. It also requires driving early engagement with design engineering to influence architecture, producibility, and manufacturing cost models using DFM/DFA and value-engineering principles. The role includes overseeing and approving manufacturing process documentation, tool designs, routing structures, and configuration-controlled build packages. Additionally, the Manufacturing Engineer III will lead root-cause investigations and corrective action implementation for high-impact production issues, MRB activities, and quality escapes. The position also involves developing manufacturing readiness assessments, major program estimates, and investment strategies for capital equipment and automation. The engineer will act as a technical lead across production, quality, supply chain, and engineering to resolve cross-functional challenges affecting cost, schedule, and technical performance. Mentoring and guiding junior staff, providing coaching, training, and technical leadership is also a key responsibility. Evaluating emerging manufacturing technologies including additive manufacturing, automated assembly, digital manufacturing, and advanced inspection systems is expected. Finally, the role requires representing Manufacturing Engineering at IPTs, MRB, configuration boards, proposal teams, and customer technical meetings.
