About The Position

First Solar reserves the right to offer you a role most applicable to your experience and skillset. This role involves installing and qualifying new process equipment, troubleshooting day-to-day manufacturing issues on the production line in a timely manner, including tool down issues, yield, and quality issues. The engineer will identify actions to prevent repeat issues and identify and/or implement system improvements that contribute to the achievement of throughput, yield, and product performance goals. The role also includes developing, continuously improving, and documenting robust solar module manufacturing processes to achieve the highest product performance in a cost-efficient manner, injecting manufacturing requirements into new process development, and designing and executing experiments to establish manufacturing process windows. The engineer will be responsible for solving day-to-day production, equipment, and process problems, evaluating, installing, and qualifying new equipment, and designing and executing planned process experiments, collecting and analyzing data, and reporting experimental results. Data collection relating to daily equipment performance and associated product performance is also a key responsibility. The role requires interfacing with internal associates and supplier representatives, maintaining effective communication with production associates and manufacturing engineers, setting up new gauges and performing gauge maintenance, and developing and providing training to other engineers, engineering technicians, and production associates. The engineer will champion continuous improvement activities using six-sigma and other statistical problem-solving methods, provide mentorship to Jr. engineers and Technicians, develop Process Control Plans and Preventive Maintenance Plans, and work with minimal supervision. Adherence to all safety procedures and good housekeeping standards is mandatory. Domestic and International travel may be required. The engineer will also develop and maintain drawings, process specifications, and develop and enforce standard operating procedures.
