About The Position

The Manufacturing Engineer I is responsible for developing, designing, implementing and managing tooling, processes and procedures. This position will train all personnel on improvements or implementation of tooling, processes and procedures. This position is responsible for managing one or more projects that may include large capital expenditures or cost saving initiatives that positively impact safety, maintenance, quality, on time delivery (OTD), efficiency and inventory. The Manufacturing Engineer will support manufacturing for all types of continuous improvement activities and may also participate on or co-lead continuous improvement events. This position will also assist in the execution of Engineered to Order (ETO) sold projects as they are shared between design and manufacturing processes.

Requirements

  • Metal forming, welding, grinding, machining, manufacturing, including general CAM and/or layout experience.
  • Must have a thorough understanding of drafting and knowledge of engineering principals and techniques including various sheet metal fabrication processes and installation procedures
  • Knowledge of Lean manufacturing knowledge or related concepts.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and manage time effectively in a constantly changing and time sensitive environment while prioritizing multiple tasks in parallel.
  • Excellent communication skills both orally and written with keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to take initiative to develop new strategies and outside-the-box ideas.
  • Self-starter and goal oriented who will aggressively pursue successful resolution of safety risks in a timely manner.
  • Ability to work independently or collaboratively with a team.
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to efficiently utilize Microsoft Office. AutoCAD experience required.
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or similar degree program is required.

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) to three (3) years related experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Design, justify, implement and manage capital projects including machine and fixturing purchases, shop floor layout designs, material handling equipment, product troubleshooting, etc.
  • Develop training materials and train all personnel on improved or new tooling, machines, processes and procedures.
  • Create and execute improvements to achieve goals established in Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Utilize scorecard performance and key metrics to prioritize efforts on tasks and projects.
  • Use real-time problem-solving tools to implement root cause solutions surrounding safety, quality, OTD, productivity, efficiency, cost savings, etc.
  • Support new product development and ETO projects ensuring successful manufacturability.
  • Implement and maintain 5S and housekeeping efforts throughout manufacturing and in collaboration with direct personnel.
  • Collaborate with the hourly production coworkers to improve their daily work as needed or required.
  • Collaborate and build relationship with Planners and Engineering to maintain routers in JDE to support accurate costing and profitability.
  • Collaborate and build relationships with other professional disciplines throughout the business on technical inquiries and needs.
  • Collaborate and build relationships with sales and marketing to develop new product offerings in a research and development capacity.
  • Provide training and guidance to other Manufacturing Engineering Technicians as needed.
  • Leverage knowledge of Manufacturing Engineer II in regards to design methodology, skills, and tools.
  • Travel including international, could be up to 15% as required by the project or other needs.
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Regular, in-person attendance due to necessary teamwork and personal interactive nature of this position
  • The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
