About The Position

Airbus US Manufacturing Facility is looking for a Manufacturing Engineer I to join our A320 Engineering Department based in Mobile, AL. Job Summary: Responsible for the manufacturing assessment of non-conformities, late changes to support production, and supporting and identifying continuous improvement opportunities for the manufacturing process. Responds to technical questions and explains work orders/drawings, especially for aircraft mechanical related items. Establishes and maintains effective communications with FAL production and serves as interface to the on site back office for work order adaptation. Opened at the Mobile Aeroplex at Brookley in 2015, the facility produces A320 Family aircraft and added a second product line for the A220 in 2019. Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or Engineering Technology or equivalent years of experience is required.
  • Must have a minimum of 0-3 years of experience in Aerospace, preferably in an Aerospace Final Assembly Line.
  • Travel Required: 5% Domestic and International.
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, methods, and tools used in manufacturing engineering.
  • Knowledge of supply chain management and quality system management.
  • Knowledge about non-conformities and design query notes.
  • Have the ability to establish and maintain a good relationship with all internal customers.
  • Have the ability to work in an international team.
  • Must possess excellent communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written.
  • Must be able to present clear and concise briefings and reports to customers and executives.
  • Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, Google Suite (Gmail, Sheets, Docs)
  • Candidates should be able to work autonomously on their own scope of work under normal circumstances, and be prepared to request support and escalate appropriately in abnormal situations.
  • Candidate should be able to make decisions related to their own scope of work in a predefined context.
  • Ability to work on 1st, 2nd, and potentially 3rd shift schedules.
  • Support production needs for completion of aircraft milestones.
  • Communicate with international colleagues to solve problems as they arise.

  • Primary internal audience - Manufacturing Engineering, Production, Quality & Logistics.
  • Vision: Able to see and read computer screens and other electronic equipment with screens, able to read documents, reports and engineering drawings.
  • Hearing: Able to hear to participate in conversations in person and via teleconference or phone and to hear sounds on the production floor including safety warnings or alarms.
  • Speaking: Able to speak in conversations and meetings, deliver information and participate in communications.
  • Equipment Operation (personal computer, telephone, copies, fax machine, and related office equipment and using electronic identification card to enter building floors and internal doors): Able to operate most office and personal electronic equipment and some tools including production tools such as hydraulic lifts.
  • Carrying: Able to carry documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs.
  • Lifting: Able to lift documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs.
  • Pushing / Pulling: Able to push and pull small office furniture and some equipment and tools.
  • Sitting: Able to sit for long periods of time in meetings, working on the computer.
  • Squatting / Kneeling: Able to squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items stored on low shelving.
  • Standing: Able to stand for discussions in offices or on the production floor.
  • Travel: Able to travel independently and at short notice, potentially internationally.
  • Walking (include routine walking such as to a shared printer to retrieve documents): Able to walk through office and production areas including uneven surfaces.
  • Personal Protective Equipment required: Required PPE includes, but is not limited to, Safety Shoes, Safety Glasses, Hearing Protection, Respirators/Masks, and/or Protective Gloves as required by site and/or customer site.

Responsibilities

  • Handle Non-Conformities: 50% Create specific work orders for FAL rework (Cabin, Systems, Electrics, or Structures by Station) , establish/verify the technical content of non-conformities, and validate in documentation. Provide technical support to production on all issues including oversight of directed changes. Responsible for incorporating implicit knowledge into work instructions and refine them in terms of language, level of detail and regulation assignment to ensure operations has correct information for aircraft build. Initiate availability of replacement parts, jigs, and tools required for work.
  • Continuous Improvement: 50% Manage continuous improvement measures with reoccurring non-conformities in cooperation with quality. Participate as an active team member to support ME activities in the FAL.
  • Support completion of the routing verification process (RVP) for new or updated processes as required.
  • Participate as an active team member learning and following dedicated training plans from current team members. including providing orientation support to new colleagues and trainees.
  • Additional projects as assigned
