Manufacturing Engineer I, Composites

Relativity Space•Long Beach, CA
•$90,000 - $136,000

About The Position

Relativity Space is hiring a Manufacturing Engineer I to own the manufacture of composite assemblies for the Terran R launch vehicle, from design release through successful installation. The role partners with design engineering and suppliers to develop manufacturable products that can scale with production demand. The engineer develops internal composite manufacturing processes—including lamination, trimming, drilling, surface preparation, adhesive bonding, mechanical assembly, grounding, and repair—to support consistent quality and compliance with design requirements and industry best practices. The role also supports first builds and product-line improvements through design integration, assembly sequencing, manufacturing bill of materials development, work-order creation, and specification authoring. This position provides responsive production-floor issue resolution, shares feedback to improve manufacturing technology, and works closely with Engineering, Build Reliability, Supply Chain, and external partners. The Manufacturing team is responsible for process development, fabrication strategy, and production equipment for Terran R, and collaborates across functions to translate engineering requirements into optimized production lines.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in aeronautical, mechanical, or another engineering discipline.
  • 1–2 years of progressive, related work experience.
  • Working experience with 3D and 2D design and drafting per ASME Y14.5M; NX is preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with engineering and manufacturing groups to understand process constraints and provide design inputs for improved manufacturability.
  • Working experience with at least two of the following: composites manufacturing; autoclave or out-of-autoclave processing; adhesive bonding; trim and drill operations; machining; mechanical fastening and torquing operations; critical lifting; tool design and fabrication; or work-center development.
  • Ability to perform trade studies using first principles and engineering fundamentals.
  • Highly self-motivated, with the ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Successful new-product introduction of an aerospace hardware product or process.
  • Experience managing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Working knowledge of typical manufacturing execution systems and quality management systems.
  • Master’s degree in engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • NX design and drafting experience.

Responsibilities
