The Manufacturing Engineer for Engineered-to-Order (ETO) Work Preparation coordinates and supports production processes within the SCHUNK manufacturing environment to ensure orders are completed on time and within budget. This role creates and manages production orders, develops and maintains routings aligned to current processes, evaluates capacity to support scheduling and planning, and coordinates with purchasing and external vendors to procure required components and subcontract services. The position also supports manufacturability reviews with design engineering, tracks and communicates production status across departments, and contributes to continuous improvement and quality initiatives.

Requirements

  • 2- or 4-year degree in Industrial, Systems, or Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field (or equivalent experience).
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings (part and assembly) and related documentation.
  • Understanding of Metric and English measurement systems.
  • Experience creating/managing orders, routings, and production records in an ERP environment (or equivalent production control experience).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel; comfortable with PC and internet-based systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to interface effectively across departments.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • SAP experience.
  • Experience with SharePoint-based systems.
  • Advanced Excel skills to gather, analyze, visualize, and share data.
  • Previous experience in machining (milling, turning, precision grinding).

Responsibilities

  • Create, release, and manage production orders in the ERP system; monitor orders through completion and ensure accurate closeout records.
  • Review demand, inventory, and capacity to support scheduling and production planning.
  • Review engineering drawings/requirements and translate them into manufacturing plans (routings, work instructions, and inspection forms).
  • Participate in design reviews and partner with engineering to confirm manufacturability and define efficient routing/process steps.
  • Coordinate with purchasing and external vendors to source components and subcontract operations as needed.
  • Communicate schedule changes, production status, and constraints across departments to keep priorities aligned.
  • Support day-to-day production needs, including equipment support for special projects when required.
  • Partner with Quality to confirm gauging/tooling needs, support adherence to quality procedures, and implement engineering changes/variations per requirements.
  • Analyze production data, identify improvement opportunities, and support continuous improvement projects.
  • Provide management updates on key production metrics.
