About The Position

Gorbel is a manufacturer of material handling and fall protection products, committed to improving people's lives through its products and work environment. The company is growing and focuses on innovation in manufacturing and distribution. The Manufacturing Engineer Co-Op will work closely with a Manufacturing Engineer to develop, evaluate, and improve manufacturing methods. This involves applying knowledge of product design, materials, parts, and fabrication processes to design, document, and create production aids, jigs, and fixtures. The Co-Op will also gain familiarity with tooling and production equipment, assisting with their maintenance, upgrades, or replacement. Furthermore, the role includes developing familiarity with assembly methods, lean manufacturing, and quality control standards to contribute to improvements in assembly areas. The Co-Op will collaborate with engineering staff to collect production data, including first pass yield, timing, and safety results, to support continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

• Enrollment as Engineering or Engineering Technology student
• Strong organizational, analytical and interpersonal skills
• Good oral and written communication skills
• Excellent command of Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, CAD (Solidworks and/or AutoCAD) and other computer programs
• Ability to independently move about factory and lift up to 50 pounds

Responsibilities

• Analyze and plan work force utilization, space requirements, workflow, and designs layout of equipment for maximum efficiency
• Develop and implement recommendations for tool redesign changes of materials, methods, etc.
• Research manufacturing trends, new technology and recommends improvements
• Investigate manufacturing problems and recommends solutions
• Facilitate Lean Manufacturing initiatives in all manufacturing facilities, participate in continuous improvement projects
• Investigate and prepare requests for capital improvements
• Review Health, Safety and Environmental
• Perform various projects as assigned
