About The Position

Gorbel’s mission is to improve people’s lives, guiding their product and service provision to customers and the work environment for employees. They are a manufacturer of material handling and fall protection products for production and warehouse/distribution sectors, constantly innovating and elevating their products and processes. They are hiring for open positions in the US and Canada, operating in Canada as Engineered Lifting Systems and Equipment (ELS)/DBA Gorbel® Canada. This Co-Op position involves working with a Manufacturing Engineer to develop, evaluate, and improve manufacturing methods. The role requires utilizing knowledge of product design, materials, parts, and fabrication processes to design, document, and create production aids, jigs, and fixtures. The Co-Op will gain knowledge of tooling and production equipment, assisting with maintenance, upgrades, or replacements. They will also develop familiarity with assembly methods, lean manufacturing, and quality control standards to help improve assembly areas, and work with engineering staff to capture production data, first pass yield, timing, and safety results for continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Enrollment as Engineering or Engineering Technology student
  • Strong organizational, analytical and interpersonal skills
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent command of Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, CAD (Solidworks and/or AutoCAD) and other computer programs
  • Ability to independently move about factory and lift up to 50 pounds

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and plan work force utilization, space requirements, workflow, and designs layout of equipment for maximum efficiency
  • Develop and implement recommendations for tool redesign changes of materials, methods, etc.
  • Research manufacturing trends, new technology and recommends improvements
  • Investigate manufacturing problems and recommends solutions
  • Facilitate Lean Manufacturing initiatives in all manufacturing facilities, participate in continuous improvement projects
  • Investigate and prepare requests for capital improvements
  • Review Health, Safety and Environmental
  • Perform various projects as assigned
