The BioProduction Group provides biotechnology and biopharmaceutical customers with innovative single-use bioprocessing systems that support the development and manufacturing of lifesaving vaccines and therapeutics. At Thermo Fisher Scientific, collaborate with our team developing and maintaining world-class manufacturing processes for advanced scientific instrumentation and biomedical products. As a Manufacturing Electrical Engineer I, you'll work across functions to optimize production, improve quality, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. Lead technical projects while working with state-of-the-art equipment in a GMP environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related STEM field required.
  • 0-2 years of relevant experience in manufacturing, automation, controls, robotics, or related engineering disciplines required.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Must be able to pass a comprehensive background check, which includes a drug screening.

Nice To Haves

  • Co-op, internship, senior design project, robotics competition participation, laboratory experience, or personal technical projects related to automation and controls are highly valued.
  • Demonstrated interest in PLCs, HMI programming, robotics, automation systems, and electrical troubleshooting with a strong desire to develop technical expertise in these areas.
  • Basic understanding of PLC and HMI concepts through coursework, internships, co-ops, personal projects, or related experience
  • Exposure to industrial automation principles and manufacturing systems
  • Familiarity with programming logic concepts such as Ladder Logic, Structured Text, or other programming languages
  • Understanding of basic machine safety and control system concepts
  • Strong foundation in electrical engineering principles including circuits, power distribution, motors, sensors, and control devices
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
  • Familiarity with AC/DC circuits, digital and analog signals, and basic motor control concepts
  • Exposure to electrical panel components, relays, contactors, and industrial electrical equipment
  • Basic understanding of Ethernet networking concepts and industrial communication systems
  • Familiarity with common industrial communication protocols is beneficial but not required
  • Interest in robotics, automation, and advanced manufacturing technologies
  • Exposure to robotics, automation systems, motion control, or mechatronics through coursework, laboratory projects, internships, co-ops, or personal projects is preferred
  • Desire to develop skills in automation integration and equipment troubleshooting
  • Familiarity with common industrial sensors and instrumentation such as temperature, pressure, proximity, or position sensing devices
  • Understanding of electrical safety fundamentals and safe work practices
  • Exposure to regulated manufacturing environments is beneficial but not required
  • Strong analytical thinking and troubleshooting aptitude
  • Demonstrated curiosity and willingness to learn new technologies
  • Hands-on approach to solving technical problems
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-based manufacturing environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and priorities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Familiarity with MiniTab is a plus
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD Electrical, SolidWorks Electrical, or similar design tools is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Learn and support existing equipment root cause analysis (RCA) and implement corrective actions to improve reliability and reduce downtime
  • Support validation and verification of existing equipment as needed
  • Support integration of new equipment into validated manufacturing environments (IQ/OQ/PQ support)
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Manufacturing, Quality, Maintenance, and Engineering
  • Perform hands-on troubleshooting of PLCs, HMIs, motion systems, robotics, and industrial networks
  • Develop, modify, and troubleshoot PLC and HMI programs under established standards
  • Contribute to development of electrical documentation, SOPs, and engineering reports
  • Support compliance with applicable safety, electrical, and regulatory standards
