1X is developing humanoid robots for home use, aiming to automate chores and tasks to give people more free time. This involves solving complex challenges in robotics, AI, and manufacturing simultaneously, at scale, and in a safe form factor for family environments. The company has been working on this since 2014 and is now focused on shipping its flagship product, NEO, a home robot designed for real-world operation alongside people. The company is scaling and hiring intentionally, seeking individuals inspired by the prospect of changing how humans spend their time through safe and abundant creation. The Hands Manufacturing group is responsible for transforming visionary engineering into scalable, highly reliable hardware. This team architects the foundational processes and complex systems for sophisticated humanoid hands and develops the production playbook. They operate with high velocity, attention to detail, and no ego, collaborating deeply with cross-functional teams to achieve ambitious goals. The role involves building manufacturing systems to bring 1X robots to scale, owning critical processes from prototype through production, and developing robust methods for machining, assembly, inspection, and validation to enhance quality, throughput, and repeatability. Many problems are novel, requiring the engineer to question conventions, test ideas rapidly, learn from the manufacturing floor, and establish dependable production systems. The standard is high, feedback is direct, and all team members are expected to contribute hands-on.
