In this dynamic leadership role, the Manufacturing Director will be responsible for the development, execution, and continuous improvement of manufacturing strategies at the Brooklyn Center facility, aligning with production, quality, and cost objectives. This site plays a critical role in supporting the design, development, and production of components used in implantable devices across multiple Medtronic businesses. Key responsibilities include leading cross-functional teams, deploying lean manufacturing principles, and partnering with Site Leadership and Operational Excellence (OpEx) to drive productivity and operational efficiency. The Director will provide strong leadership across production teams, prioritize production schedules based on new product introductions, equipment capacity, and materials availability, and drive disciplined planning around budgets, procedures, and staffing. This role will also oversee capital and labor expenditure planning, lead and develop a high-performing team of managers, and ensure staffing plans align with business needs. The successful candidate will craft and execute comprehensive business strategies, take ownership of value streams, and drive results in areas such as technical problem-solving, new product introductions, cost management, quality assurance, and customer satisfaction. This position reports directly to the Manufacturing Site Leader and plays a pivotal role in ensuring the site’s long-term success.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business Administration or other discipline related to the manufacturing environment or advanced degree in Engineering, Business Administration or other discipline related to the manufacturing environment
  • 10 years of direct experience in manufacturing / operations and or 8 years of experience with an advanced degree.
  • 7+ years of managerial experience

Nice To Haves

  • MS or MBA Degree
  • 15+ years of direct experience in manufacturing / operations and have lean sigma background with experience in demand pull systems.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience and leadership development of managers, supervisors, and subordinate organizations.
  • Proven track record of driving a positive culture, improving employee experience, engagement, and retention of employees.
  • Experience working within a quality system or regulated industry with subsequent knowledge of appropriate documentation and or quality requirements.
  • Experience with manufacturing systems such as JDE, FACTORYworks, or SAP.
  • Experience and accountability driving change resulting in improvement of Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost KPIs.
  • Candidate has demonstrated the skills to help in a lean transformation within their past work experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead in FDA regulated environment.
  • Lean, Six Sigma experience
  • ISO 13485/GMP experience
  • Experience with preventative/corrective action process
  • Understanding of Qualification protocols – IQ/OQ/PQ

Responsibilities

  • Manages MECC Brooklyn Center Direct Labor teams to ensure highest product quality and assure compliance to internal and/or external specifications and standards such as Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and ISO regulations.
  • Guide, deploy, and execute the Medtronic Performance System (MPS), our “one best way” methodology and tools that support our holistic operational excellence program.
  • Partner with Global, Supplier, and MECC Quality to develop and implement MECC specific actions and quality improvement direction for Brooklyn Center site.
  • Accountable for ensuring the implementation of GMP that to a specific production area.
  • Responsible for ensuring all direct reports understand and follow GMP.
  • Execute GMP Mfg assessments.
  • Provide leadership to owners of Corrective/Preventative actions (CAPAs) via CAPA board to resolve production and customer issues.
  • Participate in development projects to ensure products and processes are designed, developed and transferred to meet appropriate compliance/regulation standards.
  • Ensure that Goal Deployment and Hoshin strategy has been established with operational strategies, objectives, assignments, and delegates assignments to subordinate managers are in place.
  • Objectives are reviewed by senior management to determine success of operation.
  • Act as an independent/empowered decision maker relative to the value stream having responsibilities whose decisions have significant impact on the business performance.
  • Involved in developing, modifying, and executing company policies, which affect immediate operation(s) and may also have company-wide effect.
  • Erroneous decisions will result in critical delay(s) in schedules and/or unit operations and may jeopardize overall business activities.
  • Regularly interacts with senior management or executive levels on matters concerning several functional areas, divisions and/or customers.
  • Requires the ability to change the thinking of, or gain acceptance of, others in sensitive situations.
  • Manage activities through subordinate managers who exercise full supervision in terms of costs, methods, and employees.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to drive a culture of employee engagement and productivity.
