About The Position

ABBA Roller is seeking a Manufacturing Cost Engineer (Estimator) to support quoting, cost estimating, and technical evaluation of custom roller and elastomer manufacturing projects. This position works closely with Engineering, Production, Sales, Purchasing, and Customer Service to evaluate customer requirements, interpret technical drawings, determine manufacturing methods, estimate material and labor costs, and develop accurate customer quotations. ABBA Roller specializes in high-performance urethane rollers and custom elastomer solutions for industrial and commercial applications. Our team supports customers across diverse industries with durable, precision-engineered products. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • 2-4+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering, cost estimating, quoting or a related technical manufacturing role.
  • Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings and technical specifications.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and analyze engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and production workflows.
  • Ability to evaluate manufacturing methods and estimate labor, material, tooling, and production costs.
  • Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to balance multiple quoting requests while meeting deadlines.
  • Strong communications skills with the ability to collaborate across Engineering, Production, Sales, Purchasing, Customer Service, and external customers.
  • Ability to identify opportunities for process improvements and cost savings.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing within a collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to sit, stand, and work at a computer for extended periods.
  • Ability to occasionally walk through manufacturing areas to observe production processes and products.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Close vision required to review engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical discipline preferred.
  • Associate's degree or equivalent technical manufacturing experience will also be considered.
  • Experience supporting custom manufacturing, industrial products, machining, rubber, urethane, elastomer, or similar manufacturing environments preferred.
  • Exposure to manufacturing costing, labor standards, BOMs, routings, or production planning preferred.
  • Experience with ERP systems and manufacturing software preferred.
  • SolidWorks or other CAD software experience preferred.
  • Experience with ERP, quoting, CRM, or manufacturing systems preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Review customer quote requests, drawings, specifications, and technical requirements.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, sketches, and product specifications to determine manufacturing requirements.
  • Evaluate manufacturability of customer designs and recommend production methods when appropriate.
  • Develop accurate cost estimates for materials, labor, outside processing, tooling, and production requirements.
  • Prepare and submit customer quotations in a timely and professional manner.
  • Partner with Engineering, Production, Purchasing, Sales, and Customer Service to validate manufacturing feasibility and project requirements.
  • Request and evaluate vendor pricing for materials, tooling, and outside processing.
  • Analyze manufacturing costs and identify opportunities to improve pricing accuracy and production efficiency.
  • Utilize historical manufacturing and cost data to support quoting accuracy and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Assist with order handoff to production by ensuring quoted requirements are clearly communicated.
  • Communicate directly with customers to clarify technical specifications, scope, timelines, and quotation details.
  • Support Sales and Customer Service with technical and pricing-related questions.
  • Track quote activity and follow up with internal stakeholders as needed.
  • Maintain accurate quote documentation, cost records, and supporting files.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to estimating processes, costing methodologies, and manufacturing efficiency.
  • Adhere to company quality standards, safety policies, and business procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
