Requirements

  • Desire to learn new roles and grow with the company
  • Ability to read, write, and follow instructions
  • Ability to use simple specifications, dials, and gauges to regulate electricity and water flow.
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 1 year of industrial or manufacturing experience to include operating heavy mobile equipment
  • Flexibility to work a rotating 8 hr schedule
  • Ability to climb stairs, climb ladders, reach, squat, tolerate prolonged sitting, standing or walking, balance, bend, operate mobile equipment, crawl, kneel, lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work in cramped quarters, heights, extreme temperature conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Servicing the ladle metallurgy station, the casting machine billet run-out area, ladles, electric arc furnace, and the brick crew operations.
  • Performing simple routine tasks and physical labor, including digging out ladles, shoveling materials, taking temperatures, obtaining samples at the Ladle Metalurgical Station (LMS), and operating a forklift and bobcat.
  • Assisting the LMS Operator with alloy and slag additions, taking temperatures, and assisting with lancing heats.
  • Assisting the brick crew with removing refractories from used ladles and tundishes using heavy pry bars and pneumatic tools, and shoveling and dumping brick and slag refuse.
  • Cleaning the furnace and surrounding pit area, ladle car track area, tilt cylinders, casting spray changer, and billet run-out area during downtime using hand tools such as shovels, picks, crowbars, cutting torches, and brooms.
  • Assisting in hooking up, setting, and unhooking ladles and materials in conjunction with the crane.
  • Assisting the casting crew with torch cutting scrap billets when necessary.
  • Assisting the operator of the track mobile in switching scrap into the stock house.
  • Assisting furnace crew, ladle crew, and casting crew as necessary, cross-training in other melt shop jobs, and performing other duties and assignments as required and directed.
  • Inspecting and reporting faulty material, environmental hazards, and/or improper operation of plant equipment or machinery; referring questionable and unusual matters to proper supervision.
  • Maintaining work area and equipment.
