About The Position

The Manufacturing Engineering Department at Detroit Diesel is responsible for planning the implementation of new products, equipment, and processes for our Power system production lines. In the Assembly Process Engineer role, you will work with local & international partners to successfully design & implement new processes for the latest technology production lines manufacturing products as well as bringing continuous improvements to existing lines. During these activities, you will be working with a team of other Manufacturing engineers but will also have opportunities to interact with other groups focused on Operations, Quality, Maintenance and Finance. This role also has responsibility for maintaining labor time standards and bill of material to ensure current documentation and inventory tracking. It is an excellent opportunity to learn more about powertrain systems and help Daimler Truck achieve its goal of Leading Sustainable Transportation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial engineering or related field, 0-1 years of relevant experience
  • Experience working on project teams alongside different functional groups
  • Basic Knowledge of process documentation and how it is used – Control Plans, Work Instructions, PFMEA, etc.
  • Knowledge of performing time studies or calculating standard time using pre-determined time systems – TiCons etc.
  • Must be able to travel domestically or International based on project needs
  • Must be able to articulate technical information in written and oral communication
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office software
  • With assistance, if needed, able to provide layout, tooling, methods and material handling technical solutions to assembly issues.
  • With assistance, if needed, must be able to provide support to Operations, Maintenance and other functional groups on request.
  • Knowledge of standard hand tools for assembly
  • Ability to identify basic problems and procedural irregularities, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Base knowledge of AutoCAD or similar systems

  • Experience with Axle and Transmission or similar products
  • Project management or supervisory experience
  • Knowledge of Lean System Principles.
  • Global project experience
  • Knowledge of ANSI, ISO, and DIN standards
  • Knowledge with process modifications, improvements, and waste elimination
  • Experience in identifying new line or assembly concepts, and creating relevant pro-con analysis
  • Certification in a pre-determined time system (MTM, MODapts, MOST, etc.)
  • Experience with Technomatics Process Designer
  • Experience with 3D model systems – accessing and interpreting data

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design, development and implementation of new or revised processes for assembling the component parts and subassemblies required for a finished product
  • With guidance, designs the sequence of assembly operations and the arrangement of equipment for automatic parts selection, fastening (e.g., riveting, welding, screw driving, applying adhesives, etc.), labeling, sorting, and packaging.
  • Monitors the rate of assembly and finished goods inventory to identify and resolve issues impacting achievement of cost, quality, or production targets
  • Performs quality inspections and functional tests on assembled goods
  • Provide inputs for process-oriented design (PoD) or design for manufacturing to ensure ease of manual assembly where necessary
  • Responsible for routing parts for Bill of Materials and maintaining labor routings in our ERP system.
  • Responsible for supporting Change Management activities by reviewing proposed changes, providing impact statements, and implementing changes once approved
  • Organize and conduct shop floor meetings to discuss upcoming process changes with the affected production areas
