About The Position

This is a Temp-to-FT Manual Machinist position responsible for operating various manual machining tools and equipment to manufacture and repair mechanical assemblies. The role requires adherence to safety procedures, accurate data recording, and precise use of measuring devices. Responsibilities include performing milling and lathe operations, metalizing, spray welding, various welding operations, tool-post grinding, broaching, and Babbitt bearing work. The machinist will also use various power and non-power tools, handle heavy objects, and assist other machinists and shop departments as directed by supervisors.

Requirements

High School Diploma / GED
3+ Years of experience

Responsibilities

Observe all Safety procedures and use proper protective gear (especially eye and ear protection).
Record all data necessary to produce expected service and/or design results, including sizing’s and illustrations.
Use measuring devices and techniques correctly to assure proper sizing’s.
Perform milling operations such as drilling, tapping, boring and conventional milling and lathe work, using various engine lathes (e.g., horizontal and vertical mills and horizontal boring mills).
Perform various metalizing (metal spraying) and spray welding techniques as needed.
Understand materials and applications as required.
Perform various welding operations, including setup and use of MIG, TIG, torch and stick welders.
Set up and perform tool-post grinding operations (e.g., precision surface facing), broaching procedures, and Babbitt bearing work.
Use various hand-held and stationary power and non-power tolls, including but not limited to band saws, belt sanders, hand grinders, files, etc.
Lift, tighten, adjust and/or secure heavy objects in order to perform work and/or to observe safety precautions.
Assist other machinist in department with skilled or non-skilled duties as directed by supervisor and shop manager.
Assist other shop departments with skilled or non-skilled duties as directed by supervisor and shop manager.
Perform other skilled or non-skilled duties as directed by supervisor.
