About The Position

This is a direct hire position for a Manual Machinist located in Oxford, AL. The role involves learning and operating specific machines (Lathe/Mill), ensuring their proper functioning, and reporting any issues. The machinist will be responsible for grinding parts to specifications, using precision measuring tools, and documenting work. Familiarity with the company's computer system for clocking parts and completing paperwork is also required.

Requirements

Must speak, read and write the English language
Should have basic computer software skills
Must have H. S. Diploma or GED
3-5 years of experience or more
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Nice To Haves

Prior work experience in conventional machining (Mill/Lathe) is helpful but not required.
Should be able to read blueprints

Responsibilities

Learn and understand the proper operation of the employee’s machine (Lathe/Mill).
Be responsible for that machine and report any problems to Management.
Use and be able to read micrometers and bore gauges.
Learn and be able to indicate or “zero” parts on machines.
Grind parts to the specifications called for on “Travelers”.
Be familiar with the company computer system, know how to “clock” parts to locations, and document the required paperwork.
Read and understand company procedures and shop work instructions.
Check tolerances of parts using C-mics, Tri-mics, bore gauges, and calipers.
Complete set-ups on machines, indicate parts to find position and machine to specific tolerances.
Properly maintain all assigned equipment.
Follow the “time in location” priority list.
