About The Position

The Manual Machinist Lathe position is responsible for safely and efficiently producing product that meets all quality parameters. This role requires a proven understanding of machining principles, including the correlation between lead error and helix angles, and the ability to adjust machines accordingly. The machinist will track and document die usage, evaluate die condition, and possess a basic understanding of thread lead and helix angles. They will identify and communicate recommendations for product and productivity enhancements, work collaboratively with material schedulers to support customer needs, and maintain compliance with company policies, safety, and housekeeping practices. The role demands advanced job operating efficiency, basic ability to monitor and measure products to ensure adherence to tolerances and specifications, and the capability to train new operators. Teamwork, efficient work prioritization, basic machine upkeep and cleanliness, and troubleshooting skills are essential. A demonstrated willingness to be a self-starter, the ability to motivate co-workers for continuous quality improvement, and the skill to keep scrap and rework at minimal levels are also key aspects of this position. Additional duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years proven experience.
  • Sound mechanical aptitude with hands-on skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to read precision measuring equipment.
  • Basic blueprint reading skills and programming knowledge or experience.
  • Basic set-up capabilities, tooling knowledge, understanding of feeds and speeds.
  • Overhead crane and fork truck experience required.
  • Basic understanding of gearing terminology.
  • Provide your own tools.
