About The Position

The Manual Machinist I is responsible for setting up and operating conventional machining equipment to manufacture, repair, and modify precision components used in industrial equipment and systems.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of machinist experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment
  • 1–3 years of hands-on manual machining experience operating conventional machine shop equipment
  • High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training in machining preferred
  • Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, and specifications
  • Proficient with precision measuring instruments and inspection techniques
  • Knowledge of machining materials, tooling, cutting methods, and shop mathematics
  • Ability to maintain tight tolerances and produce high-quality work with minimal supervision
  • Understanding of OSHA safety standards and safe machine operation practices
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods during shifts
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

Nice To Haves

  • Forklift or overhead crane operation experience
  • Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement experience

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate manual machining equipment including lathes, mills, drill presses, grinders, and saws
  • Manufacture, modify, and repair metal components to precise tolerances according to engineering drawings and specifications
  • Read and interpret blueprints, work orders, sketches, and technical documents
  • Select appropriate tooling, materials, speeds, and feeds for machining operations
  • Perform precision measurements using micrometers, calipers, indicators, gauges, and other inspection equipment
  • Conduct routine machine maintenance and maintain a clean and organized work environment
  • Inspect finished parts to ensure compliance with quality standards and dimensional requirements
  • Troubleshoot machining and equipment issues to minimize downtime and production delays
  • Collaborate with engineering, fabrication, and production teams to support manufacturing operations
  • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and OSHA regulations
  • Maintain accurate production and quality documentation
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to machining processes, efficiency, and workplace safety
