About The Position

The Manual Bridgeport Knee-Mill Operator sets up, adjusts, and operates manual vertical knee-mills of various sizes to bore and drill holes to print tolerances, face mill, groove, recess, taper, drill, and tap a variety of standard and non-standard work pieces. The role requires skill in maintaining tolerances on related dimensions. Setups may involve blocking, aligning, and securing irregularly shaped work pieces. The position is a 14-month temporary assignment based onsite in Novi, Michigan. The operator performs manual machining, verifies that finished work conforms to specifications, maintains the work area, reports daily production, and reports non-conformances.

Requirements

At least 3 years of manual Bridgeport knee-mill experience.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Ability to work independently with written and verbal direction.
Good problem-solving skills.
Proficient math skills.
Blueprint-reading skills using both imperial and metric systems.

Vocational training preferred.

Responsibilities

Load and unload parts manually or by rigging and using overhead lifting devices.
Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines.
Position and secure workpieces on the table using bolts, jigs, clamps, shims, or other holding devices.
Select appropriate tools for machining parts, including drills, taps, end mills, and boring cutters.
Perform manual machining operations and follow standard operating procedures.
Verify machined work conforms to specifications using measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and fixed and telescoping gauges.
Perform CILR tasks to maintain the area.
Report daily production achieved.
Report non-conformances.
Follow factory-floor environmental health and safety rules, use proper PPE, recognize unsafe acts and conditions, and be ready to follow the emergency plan.
