About The Position

Bauhaus der Erde is a non-profit research institute based in Berlin and Potsdam, dedicated to creating a sustainable built environment that protects the climate and biodiversity. We achieve this by rethinking architecture, urban design, and materials science in collaboration with various partners. Our interdisciplinary team of around 50 employees works on projects that are scientifically grounded and practice-oriented, ranging from lab experiments to developing workplace structures. We aim to provide a meaningful learning experience for mandatory interns, tailored to their academic background and interests. The internship offers active project integration, impactful contributions, and collaborative growth with a dedicated mentor, ensuring no "endless photocopying or coffee runs."

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a university degree program relevant to the selected focus area (e.g., Architecture, Environmental Sciences, Media/Communications, Business/HR, or Psychology).
  • The internship must be a compulsory, officially required part of your current university degree regulations (Pflichtpraktikum).
  • Available for a continuous period of at least 4 months (ideally 6 months).
  • Studies in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or Urban Design.
  • Studies in Forestry, Geo-Ecology, Environmental Sciences, Data Science, Sustainability Management, or Spatial Planning.
  • Studies in Media/Communication Sciences, Journalism, Graphic Design, or Cultural Studies.
  • Studies in Business Administration (with a focus on HR or Management), Psychology, Social Sciences, or Organizational Development.
  • You love desk research, feel comfortable structuring data sheets in Excel, and have a strong analytical mindset.
  • You are highly organized, love creating clear text structures, and are genuinely passionate about team culture, internal communication, and modern workplace operations.

Nice To Haves

  • First practical experience with 3D modeling software (Rhino, AutoCAD) or hands-on prototyping and physical model-making is highly valued.
  • First experience with copywriting, content creation, or visual tools like Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign/Photoshop, Canva) is a strong asset.
  • German is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Support architects and engineers with bio-based and regenerative design strategies.
  • Assist in digital drafting and 3D modeling.
  • Help with physical model-making and laser-cutting in the lab.
  • Organize and catalog material samples for building demonstrators.
  • Conduct targeted literature reviews.
  • Gather environmental and forestry data.
  • Track regional bio-material value chains.
  • Prepare raw data sheets for Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) and climate impact modeling.
  • Draft text versions and stories for social media channels and website.
  • Source visual materials.
  • Support editorial planning.
  • Take over operational and organizational logistics before and during public events, panel discussions, and workshops.
  • Work closely with the People & Culture team to shape internal frameworks, modern workplace structures, and organizational development.
  • Help build internal documentation.
  • Create clear master guides for the team wiki.
  • Support employer branding initiatives.
  • Assist in preparing logistics, materials, and concepts for internal team-building and development workshops.
