About The Position

ERM is seeking a Managing Technical Consultant, Power and Renewables to join their California team to support the domestic Impact Assessment service area. This role will focus on supporting permitting, regulatory compliance, and CEQA/NEPA projects for energy clients primarily in the western US. Requirements

Bachelors and/or Masters degree in environmental science/engineering, biology/ecology, planning, or similar field.
6+ years of impact assessment and environmental permitting experience, including consulting experience.
Prior experience developing NEPA and CEQA documentation.
Prior experience with state permitting requirements (AZ, NV, CA, and other western states) is an asset.
High degree of technical competence and broad knowledge of impact assessment best practices, with a solid grasp of the key impact assessment and management issues within the energy sector.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; experience writing comprehensive technical reports and standards.
Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, meeting strict deadlines, and traveling to client facilities as needed.
Valid driver's license and/or the ability to operate a company vehicle due to frequent travel to various client locations across a large geographical area.

Nice To Haves

8+ years of impact assessment and environmental permitting experience, including consulting experience.
Experience permitting projects within the California Coastal Zone under the jurisdiction of either the California Coastal Commission or various Local Coastal Plans is preferred.

Responsibilities

Provide creative and fit-for-purpose technical analyses in specialization areas and support additional analyses outside of specialization areas by collaborating with SMEs.
Provide technical consulting support for environmental permitting and compliance associated with development projects including power generation, electrical transmission, and renewable energy projects, with an emphasis on CEQA, NEPA, Clean Water Act Sections 401/404, Endangered Species Act, and equivalent state/local regulations.
Support large compliance programs in a data management and communication role.
Contribute to preparing impact assessment deliverables.
Perform project delivery activities such as report writing, undertaking and organizing data collection and survey field work, data and literature review, and development of recommendations for clients.
Collaborate with other ERM impact assessment practitioners from multiple offices to execute impact assessment projects including environmental impact assessment, land planning, facility siting & permitting, risk assessment and water resources management.
Complete work assignments in accordance with ERM's management system, format and quality standards.
Work within quality/budget/schedule expectations and scope-specific assignments.
Interact directly with clients and their SMEs on matters related to biology and environmental science.
