As a Managing Technical Consultant, Fisheries Biologist (Fixed-Term) with ERM (full-time, one-year maternity coverage with potential to convert to regular full-time), you will play a pivotal role in delivering complex, multimillion-dollar projects that influence environmental outcomes at scale. Based in Whitehorse, Yellowknife, Calgary, Saskatoon, Vancouver, or Toronto, this role positions you at the forefront of ERM’s growing Biodiversity & Ecosystems practice, where your expertise will directly contribute to strategic client solutions and the advancement of sustainable development across industries. What Your Impact Is: In this role, you will: Travel to beautiful, remote regions across Canada to support field programs and stewardship initiatives. Contribute to transformative mining and energy projects for major clients. Play a key leadership role in a growing fisheries team delivering complex work across Canada and globally. Operate from one of ERM’s major Canadian offices or within a flexible hybrid environment. You’ll collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of aquatic scientists, hydrologists, wildlife biologists, toxicologists, and other experts to solve complex sustainability challenges.

Requirements

B.Sc. in Fisheries Biology or a related discipline or equivalent experience
Registered Professional Biologist (or equivalent), or eligibility to obtain designation
4+ years of consulting experience in freshwater fish and fish habitat assessments, sampling, aquatic biology, and water quality programs
Advanced written and oral communication skills, including technical reporting and permitting documentation
Strong knowledge of federal, provincial, and territorial regulations relevant to mining and oil & gas
Proven ability to manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment, work independently with minimal supervision, and travel extensively
Excellent problem-solving skills and a strong commitment to safety
Driver's License Required: This position requires a valid driver's license and/or the ability to operate a company vehicle due to the nature of job duties, which include frequent travel to various client locations across a large geographical area
Pleasure Craft Operator’s License

Nice To Haves

M.Sc. in Fisheries Biology or a related discipline
6+ years of consulting experience in freshwater fish and fish habitat assessments, sampling, aquatic biology, and water quality programs
Experience in hydrology, instream flow assessment, hydroacoustic/bathymetric assessment, and/or fish habitat offsetting
Electrofishing certification, Intermediate First Aid, and/or Swiftwater Rescue Training
Experience mentoring junior staff

Responsibilities

Design and lead fish and fish habitat field programs across freshwater systems in Canada
Support planning, implementation, and monitoring of fisheries offsetting and compensation programs
Compile, manage, analyze, and interpret fish community, biology, and habitat data; support database management
Prepare technical documents including baseline studies, monitoring reports, impact assessments, permitting applications, and offsetting plans
Actively contribute to ERM’s Canadian and international aquatics/fisheries technical communities
Provide mentorship and guidance to junior biologists and field technicians
