About The Position

Exponent is seeking an experienced Managing Scientist for their Ecological and Biological Sciences Practice in Philadelphia, PA. This role involves providing technical support for existing projects and business development efforts. The position focuses on strategic business development, client networking, and growing technical services related to the global fate and transport of chemicals, their potential risks, regulatory impacts, and sustainable strategies. Responsibilities include understanding and interpreting water resources and land-use activities, directing analyses, preparing regulatory documents and expert reports, synthesizing technical information, and developing professional status through publications and conference participation. Collaboration with internal teams and interdisciplinary groups is also a key aspect of the role.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Ecotoxicology, Ecology, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Chemistry, or another related field
  • Minimum of 7 years of professional experience, with at least 4 years of direct consulting experience
  • Expert-level knowledge of emerging chemicals, legacy contaminants and the ability to assess fate and transport of pollutants
  • Working knowledge of sustainability and management of constituents in the environment
  • Strong understanding of scientific sampling methodologies and state-of-science on a broad range of terrestrial, wildlife, soil, and water quality issues
  • Proven experience with data analysis and statistics
  • Proven experience in the assessment of risk
  • Proven experience managing tasks of moderate scope and complexity
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple projects and tasks with competing deadlines, and communicate within multidisciplinary teams
  • Demonstrated ability in written and oral communications
  • Strong commitment to personal development and the development of staff
  • Presently legally authorized to work in the United States. No immigration sponsorship or processing required.

Nice To Haves

  • Being a board-certified risk assessor
  • Understanding of federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations pertinent to water quality and related environmental sciences, including ESA, NEPA, TSCA, REACH, RCRA, CERCLA, and Clean Water Act in the U.S. and similar laws and regulations in other countries
  • Experience in addressing both proactive and litigation-related matters

Responsibilities

  • Strategic business development and client networking with the aim of growing a broad range of science and engineering technical services related to global fate and transport of chemicals, their associated potential risks, impacts to regulatory initiatives, and assessment of sustainable strategies for products and services
  • Understanding and interpreting water resources and land-use activities, focusing on emerging chemicals and associated products, including government regulations, environmental monitoring, site infrastructure, and production processes
  • Directing and supporting the conduct of analyses and preparing regulatory documents and expert reports
  • Synthesizing technical information and applying creative and critical thinking to prepare and review reports and technical presentations
  • Developing and maintaining professional status by authoring peer-reviewed publications and participating in technical conferences and activities of professional societies
  • Working cooperatively on projects with other members of the Ecological and Biological Sciences Practice and interdisciplinary groups from other Exponent practices as appropriate
