About The Position

State Street is seeking a senior executive to lead a critical Transfer Agency function within our Private Markets business. This role sits at the intersection of client leadership, operational excellence, risk management, and business growth, with responsibility for delivering high-quality transfer agency services to some of our most strategic alternative asset manager clients. The Managing Director will serve as a visible leader internally and externally, shaping strategy, strengthening client relationships, leading high-performing teams, and driving innovation across the operating model.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in accounting, finance, business, economics, mathematics, or a related discipline.
  • 10+ years of transfer agency and/or financial services operations experience, including leadership responsibility for complex client relationships, service delivery, and operational execution.
  • Demonstrated business management experience supporting complex clients in a highly regulated, service-oriented environment with significant senior-level interaction.
  • Strong strategic, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make sound decisions in a complex operating environment.
  • Executive presence and the ability to build credibility with senior clients, internal partners, and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills, including strong judgment, prioritization, and execution discipline.
  • A leadership style that inspires teams, develops talent, and fosters collaboration across functions and levels.
  • The ability to navigate pressure effectively, manage multiple priorities, and deliver consistently in a fast-paced client-focused environment.

Nice To Haves

  • MBA, CPA, or other relevant advanced professional qualification is a plus.
  • Knowledge of registered fund structures and related entity frameworks, including standalone funds and master-feeder structures.
  • Experience with transfer agency platforms, servicing technology, reporting tools, and workflow solutions.
  • Understanding of upstream and downstream technology solutions that support automation and scalable servicing in private markets environments.
  • Familiarity with a broader range of alternative investment structures is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and execution of the business strategy for the Transfer Agency function within Private Markets, aligning delivery priorities with client needs and broader business objectives.
  • Oversee service delivery for an assigned client portfolio, ensuring all daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly deliverables are completed accurately, on time, and to a high standard.
  • Build and maintain senior relationships with key client stakeholders, serving as a trusted partner and escalation point while helping ensure a consistently strong client experience.
  • Coordinate production calendars and cross-functional execution with internal teams, including onboarding, investor servicing, reporting, compliance, tax, and other support functions.
  • Drive operational excellence by strengthening processes, controls, and governance to support quality, consistency, scalability, and risk mitigation.
  • Identify high-risk activities and proactively implement actions that reduce service disruption, operational risk, and potential financial loss.
  • Lead, coach, and develop managers and teams, creating an environment of accountability, collaboration, engagement, and continuous improvement.
  • Own core people-management responsibilities, including goal setting, performance feedback, talent development, succession planning, and formal performance reviews.
  • Support enterprise initiatives and communicate priorities clearly across teams, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and a strong culture of execution.
  • Contribute to budget planning, workforce planning, and staffing models, including support for new business implementations and growth opportunities.
  • Assess the effectiveness of the operating model and champion transformation opportunities that improve efficiency, scalability, automation, and client outcomes.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders on product development, solutioning, and new business opportunities to help expand capabilities and support client growth.
  • Represent State Street as a senior leader in client discussions, strategic initiatives, governance forums, and cross-functional programs.
  • Lead or sponsor special projects, committees, and task forces that advance business priorities and strengthen execution across the organization.
