About The Position

Mass General Brigham's Investment Office manages over $30 billion, primarily through partnerships with external investment firms, covering strategies like private equity, venture capital, equities, and real assets. The office aims to achieve excellent long-term risk-adjusted returns to support MGB's mission. This is a hybrid role based in Boston/Somerville, MA, offering a collaborative and team-oriented environment. The Investment Office is seeking an Investment Managing Director, Real Estate, to join their team. This new role reports to MGB’s Chief Investment Officer and has two main objectives: 1. To collaborate with MGB’s Chief Investment Officer and leadership to design and execute a new direct real estate initiative focused on long-term, non-operating real estate investments. This individual will be responsible for steering real estate investment identification, underwriting, and asset management for real estate directly held within MGB's investment pools. This initiative requires real estate investment thought leadership, a strong network within the Greater Boston Area real estate market, creative and strategic thinking, and strong leadership and collaboration skills. 2. To support the underwriting of third-party investment managers, primarily focusing on real estate strategies but also including other investment areas in collaboration with generalist investment staff. MGB partners with external managers to access global investments, leveraging its long-duration capital, scaled asset base, and partnership-oriented approach. The Investment Office fosters a collaborative and meritocratic environment where all investment staff participate in the internal investment committee. While direct real estate investments will be concentrated in Massachusetts, manager underwriting efforts may involve domestic and international travel.
