About The Position

Kids in Tech equips young people with the skills and confidence to succeed in a technology-driven world through hands-on STEAM programming. We are entering a significant growth phase, including the launch of a public-facing STEM Innovation Lab in Boston's Seaport, alongside a broader strategy for program expansion, organizational growth, and long-term sustainability. The Opportunity Kids in Tech is seeking a Managing Director, Philanthropy & External Affairs to lead philanthropic revenue growth and external positioning for the organization. Working closely with the CEO, this leader will build and execute a diversified philanthropic strategy, cultivate and secure major and transformational gifts, expand corporate and foundation partnerships, and help shape and execute a significant multi-year comprehensive campaign supporting Kids in Tech's next phase of growth. This is a senior, externally facing leadership role for a builder who can develop strategy, cultivate relationships, create a strong fundraising pipeline, and close significant funding.

Requirements

  • Have personally cultivated, solicited, and closed significant gifts or funding commitments.
  • Have built or substantially expanded a fundraising pipeline rather than solely managed an established portfolio.
  • Have experience leading or playing a significant role in a comprehensive, capital, or major growth campaign.
  • Are comfortable engaging senior executives, major donors, funders, civic leaders, and other external stakeholders.
  • Can translate mission and impact into compelling funding opportunities.
  • Have built or scaled a development, philanthropy, or partnerships function.
  • Thrive in fast-moving, high-growth environments.
  • Combine strategic thinking with strong execution and follow-through.
  • Fundraising experience comes from nonprofit philanthropy, political campaigns, higher education, healthcare, advocacy, or other relationship-driven fundraising environments.
  • This is not a fundraising coordination or support position. The Managing Director will have meaningful ownership and accountability for philanthropic revenue growth and must bring demonstrated experience building relationships, developing pipelines, securing funding, and translating strategy into measurable results.

Responsibilities

  • Personally cultivate, solicit, and secure significant gifts and strategic investments.
  • Establish revenue goals, forecasts, pipeline targets, and performance benchmarks in partnership with the CEO.
  • Partner with the CEO and campaign advisors to assess campaign readiness and establish an ambitious, evidence-based campaign goal.
  • Develop campaign strategy, donor segmentation, cultivation pathways, prospect strategies, and measurable fundraising targets.
  • Develop compelling campaign materials and cases for investment.
  • Help activate the Board of Directors in prospect identification, introductions, cultivation, solicitation, and campaign activity.
  • Build high-value relationships across corporate, philanthropic, civic, and education sectors.
  • Represent Kids in Tech at events, convenings, and stakeholder meetings.
  • Strengthen the organization's visibility and positioning across Boston and beyond.
  • Build a disciplined prospect identification and research function.
  • Develop donor stewardship and engagement strategies that strengthen retention and create pathways to increased giving.
  • Build strong fundraising systems, including CRM practices, moves management, pipeline reporting, forecasting, and stewardship tracking.
  • Maximize the CEO's fundraising engagement through prospect strategy, briefing materials, asks, and follow-up.
  • Lead external communications, storytelling, marketing, and brand positioning.
  • Translate program outcomes and organizational impact into compelling donor, partner, and public-facing narratives.
  • Oversee donor and stakeholder communications, including impact reports, newsletters, campaign communications, and stewardship materials.
  • Build and lead the development and external relations function as Kids in Tech grows.
  • Establish clear KPIs, reporting systems, and accountability structures.
  • Define the team structure and hiring roadmap needed to scale the function.
