About The Position

The Managing Director, Energy Banking is a senior relationship and business leader responsible for driving growth, profitability, and client engagement across the Energy sector portfolio. This role provides strategic leadership in delivering comprehensive banking solutions—including lending, treasury, capital markets, risk management, and advisory services—to energy clients. The Managing Director serves as a trusted advisor to executive-level clients, leads complex deal execution, and plays a critical role in talent development, portfolio management, and strategic direction for the Energy Banking platform.

Requirements

  • Advanced knowledge of energy markets, capital structures, commodity risk, regulatory environment and financial modeling
  • Strong strategic, analytic and financial acumen
  • Executive level communication, negotiation and presentation skills
  • Proven performer as an Energy loan officer in a high performing commercial bank environment is required; familiarity with the metro market and region is preferred.
  • Effective communicator, results oriented, demonstrates the ability to excel in high-pressure situations.
  • Exhibit strong interpersonal skills with the ability to cultivate long term relationships and influence others internally and externally.
  • Lead teams, exhibit influence across organizations and manage large, complex client portfolios
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Economics, Engineering or related field required; MBA or advanced degree preferred
  • 12+ years of progressive experience in commercial or investment banking, with significant focus on the energy sector
  • Demonstrated success in senior-level relationship management, deal origination and complex credit structuring

Responsibilities

  • Client Relationship Management & Business Development Originate, structure, and grow complex banking relationships with energy companies, sponsors, and industry participants.
  • Serve as primary relationship manager for key strategic clients, maintaining deep executive-level engagement.
  • Identify new business opportunities, expand wallet share, and cross-sell banking, capital markets, treasury, wealth management and advisory solutions.
  • Act as a trusted financial advisor, delivering insights on industry trends, capital structures, market risks, and strategic options.
  • Deal Origination & Execution Lead the origination and execution of credit facilities, project financings, and related energy transactions.
  • Partner with Capital Markets, Risk Management and Treasury Management to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Oversee credit structuring, underwriting, pricing, and approval processes, ensuring strong risk-adjusted returns.
  • Provide senior oversight on transaction documentation, negotiations, and closings.
  • Portfolio & Risk Management Maintain accountability for portfolio performance and regulatory compliance across energy client relationships.
  • Monitor industry trends, commodity cycles, regulatory developments, and macroeconomic factors impacting the portfolio.
  • Proactively manage risks, approvals, renewals, and remediation strategies where appropriate.
  • Ensure adherence to internal risk policies and governance standards.
  • Leadership & Talent Development Provide leadership, mentorship, and performance management for Energy Banking teams.
  • Foster a high-performance, inclusive, and collaborative culture.
  • Participate in recruiting, coaching, and succession planning efforts.
  • Serve as a senior representative of the Energy Banking group within the organization and externally.
  • Strategy & Market Leadership Contribute to the development and execution of the Energy Banking growth strategy, including energy transition initiatives.
  • Represent the bank at industry conferences, client events, and with key stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership on product innovation and market positioning in the evolving energy landscape.
