About The Position

As CAAT’s Managing Director & Head of Private Markets, you will provide executive leadership for one of the organization's most significant investment platforms, overseeing the strategy, governance, performance, and growth of a globally diversified $10B+ private markets portfolio (Private Equity, Private Credit, Infrastructure, Real Estate). Reporting to the Chief Investment Officer, you will play a pivotal role in setting investment policy, influencing total fund strategy, and ensuring our private markets program continues to deliver strong, sustainable returns that support the long-term commitments of the pension plan. This is a highly visible executive leadership role that combines strategic investing, organizational leadership, and market influence. You will lead and foster the development of a team of high-performing investment professionals, oversee complex investment decisions, cultivate relationships with premier global investment partners, and represent the organization within the institutional investment community. Your ability to balance disciplined investment decision-making with long-term strategic thinking will directly contribute to the Fund's success. Requirements

  • A distinguished investment career with 15+ years of experience across institutional investing, private markets, pension funds, asset management, or capital markets.
  • At least 10 years of leadership experience overseeing sophisticated global private markets investment programs, including fund investments, co-investments, direct investments, and strategic partnerships.
  • Demonstrated success developing investment strategies that balance long-term value creation with disciplined portfolio and risk management.
  • Deep understanding of institutional portfolio construction, asset allocation, liquidity management, and total fund investing principles.
  • A proven ability to evaluate complex investment opportunities and exercise sound judgment in high-value investment decisions.
  • Executive presence with exceptional communication and influencing skills, capable of engaging senior executives, boards, investment committees, and external partners with credibility and confidence.
  • Strong people leadership experience with a demonstrated passion for building high-performing teams, developing future leaders, and fostering a collaborative, inclusive culture.
  • An established network within the global institutional investment community, with strong relationships across investment managers, general partners, consultants, advisors, and peer investors.
  • Strategic curiosity, commercial acumen, and the ability to identify emerging investment trends and position the organization to capitalize on evolving market opportunities.
  • An undergraduate degree in Finance, Business, Economics, or a related field, with preference for an additional degree or designation such as CFA, CPA, MBA, or other relevant qualification.
  • Uncompromising integrity, sound judgment, and a fiduciary mindset, with a commitment to acting in the best interests of the Fund and its members.

Responsibilities

  • Set the strategic direction for our private markets platform, ensuring investment strategies align with the Fund's long-term objectives, risk appetite, and overall portfolio construction.
  • Partner with the Chief Investment Officer and other senior investment team leaders to shape enterprise investment strategy, investment policy, asset allocation, and other total fund initiatives.
  • Lead a team of accomplished investment professionals responsible for building and managing globally diversified private markets portfolios across multiple asset classes and investment structures.
  • Provide strategic oversight of investment sourcing, underwriting, due diligence, transaction execution, portfolio construction, and ongoing portfolio management.
  • Ensure our private markets portfolio maintains an appropriate balance of diversification, liquidity, sector exposure, geography, and return potential within the broader Fund.
  • Foster a culture of investment excellence by strengthening governance, enhancing investment processes, and promoting disciplined decision-making across the private markets team.
  • Review, and as appropriate, develop recommendations for complex investment opportunities while providing thoughtful challenge, guidance, and strategic perspective throughout the investment lifecycle.
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with leading institutional investors, fund managers, investment partners, advisors, and industry peers to expand market intelligence and investment opportunities.
  • Represent the organization externally through industry associations, conferences, and speaking engagements, enhancing our reputation as a sophisticated long-term institutional investor.
  • Champion talent development by coaching senior investment professionals and leaders, strengthening leadership capability, supporting succession planning, and attracting exceptional investment talent.
  • Support effective governance, reporting, and performance monitoring processes that provide transparency, accountability, and confidence to executive leadership, the Investment Committee, and the Board.
