Managing Counsel - Data Center Regulatory
About The Position
Oracle is seeking a legal counsel with at least 5–10 years of regulatory experience to join its Data Center & Networking Legal team. This role focuses on providing legal and regulatory support for the development, construction, and operation of Oracle's rapidly expanding global data center portfolio, with a particular emphasis on energy and environmental matters. The Data Center and Networking legal team within Oracle’s legal department is responsible for providing legal support for complex data center power and energy transactions with data center providers. Regulatory counsel works closely with Oracle executives to review, shape, and implement regulatory initiatives impacting data center development, including power and energy requirements, site selection, land use, permitting, and zoning.
Requirements
- At least 5–10 years of regulatory experience.
- J.D. from an accredited law school and active membership in at least one U.S. state bar.
- At least 8 years of relevant legal experience in a law firm, government agency, or in-house legal department.
- A demonstrated track record of advising clients on complex energy law, environmental law, or infrastructure regulatory matters.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state regulatory frameworks affecting energy, utilities, environmental permitting, or large infrastructure projects.
- Experience with one or more of the following: Electric utility and power sector regulation, Environmental permitting and compliance, Land use, zoning, or infrastructure permitting.
- Strong legal research, analytical, drafting, and counseling skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex regulatory issues to non-lawyers.
- Ability to prioritize multiple projects and thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
Nice To Haves
- Experience supporting complex commercial or infrastructure projects is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Providing legal and regulatory support for the development, construction, and operation of Oracle's rapidly expanding global data center portfolio, with a particular emphasis on energy and environmental matters.
- Reviewing, shaping, and implementing regulatory initiatives impacting data center development, including power and energy requirements, site selection, land use, permitting, and zoning.
- Developing internal guidance, templates, and best practices to support consistent legal advice across Oracle's expanding data center portfolio.
