About The Position

The Manager of Wound, Ostomy & Continence Nursing (WOCN) provides advanced clinical expertise, program leadership, and staff education in the prevention and management of complex wounds, ostomies, and continence disorders across the continuum of care. This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating evidence-based WOCN programs that improve patient outcomes, reduce hospital-acquired conditions, and support a culture of nursing excellence. The WOCN Manager serves as a clinical resource and consultant to nursing staff, interdisciplinary teams, and hospital leadership.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Minimum three (3) to five (5) of clinical WOCN experience, preferably in an acute care or community hospital setting.
  • Experience with NDNQI data submission, clinical quality registries, or value-based care reporting.
  • Experience working in a safety-net hospital or community health environment.
  • Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the State of New York (or applicable state).
  • Certification in Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nursing (CWOCN) or equivalent specialty certification (CWON, COCN, CCCN required. If none at hire, must be, obtain within twelve (12) months of hire.
  • Advanced clinical judgment in complex wound and ostomy management.
  • Ability to lead interdisciplinary teams, manage change, and influence outcomes without direct authority.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for patient education, staff development, and leadership reporting.
  • Ability to interpret quality data, identify trends, and design data-driven improvement strategies.
  • Commitment to culturally competent, patient-centered care within a diverse community hospital environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to partner across departments, disciplines, and levels of the organization.
  • Strong understanding of CMS Conditions of Participation, Joint Commission standards, and NDNQI quality indicators.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of pressure injury prevention, wound healing physiology, ostomy rehabilitation, and continence care.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree (MSN, MS OR DNP)
  • Experience in program development, clinical education, or nursing leadership
  • Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) licensure
  • DNP or PhD with informatics focus
  • Nurse Practitioner (NP) certification
  • Membership in the Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurses Society (WOCN Society).
  • Familiarity with EPIC or equivalent electronic health record (HER) systems
