About The Position

The Manager – Warehouse Operations, 2nd Shift provides leadership and oversight for all areas of the main warehouse during second-shift operations. The Manager is responsible for ensuring warehouse operations are executed safely, accurately, efficiently, and in alignment with customer and business requirements. This role leads supervisors and associates across the warehouse, monitors operational performance, addresses issues that may impact service or productivity, and ensures effective communication and handoffs between shifts. The Manager partners closely with warehouse leadership, Sales, Project Operations, Inventory Control, Purchasing, Transportation, Safety, and Human Resources to support material flow, customer service, staffing, and overall operational performance.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Operations Management, Logistics, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
5+ years of progressive experience in warehouse, distribution, logistics, supply chain, or operations.
3+ years of experience leading supervisors and/or warehouse teams in a distribution environment.
Experience supporting a complex warehouse operation with multiple functional areas and competing operational priorities.
Demonstrated understanding of receiving, inventory flow, replenishment, order fulfillment, staging, shipping, delivery routing, and truck-loading operations.
Experience using operational metrics to manage productivity, quality, service, and performance.
Demonstrated ability to develop people, improve processes, and lead change.
Working knowledge of WMS and ERP systems.
Strong people leadership, coaching, and performance management skills.
Ability to manage multiple operational priorities in a fast-paced warehouse environment.
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify root causes and implement practical solutions.

Working knowledge of warehouse management and ERP systems.
Frequently required to lift, carry, push, or pull products, parts, and materials weighing up to 75 pounds independently and up to 100 pounds with assistance or mechanical handling equipment.
Extended periods of standing and walking throughout the warehouse on concrete floors during the work shift.
Occasional climbing onto equipment; ability to maintain balance while moving materials on elevated platforms or racking systems.
Regular bending, stooping, kneeling, and crouching to retrieve, stock, or handle products at floor and low-level shelving.
Frequent reaching overhead, forward, and to the side; regular grasping and handling of materials, boxes, tools, and warehouse equipment.
Must have close vision, distance vision, depth perception, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus to read labels, scan barcodes, and safely operate equipment.
Ability to hear instructions, safety signals, and warehouse equipment alarms; communicate effectively with team members and supervisors in a noisy environment.
Work performed primarily in a warehouse environment with regular exposure to varying temperatures, dust, noise, and moving equipment.
Required to wear and maintain appropriate personal protective equipment (e.g., safety shoes, gloves, high-visibility vest, equipment safety harness) for extended periods.

Nice To Haves

Experience with Lean or continuous improvement principles preferred.
Experience leading operations with 50+ associates preferred; experience in a large distribution environment with 100+ associates is a plus.

Responsibilities

Lead the execution of all second-shift warehouse operations, including receiving, put-away, replenishment, picking, staging, material movement, quality control, shipping, routing, and truck loading.
Ensure material is received, identified, stored, picked, staged, and prepared for delivery accurately and according to customer and operational requirements.
Oversee daily delivery routing and truck-loading activities to ensure customer orders are assigned, sequenced, staged, and loaded accurately and efficiently for scheduled deliveries.
Coordinate with Transportation and warehouse teams to optimize routes, truck utilization, loading sequence, and departure readiness while considering customer requirements, delivery windows, vehicle capacity, and operational priorities.
Ensure delivery trucks are loaded safely and accurately, with material organized to support efficient delivery execution and minimize damage, handling, and service disruptions.
Coordinate workflow and labor across warehouse functions based on volume, priorities, staffing, delivery schedules, and customer commitments.
Monitor order volume, inventory flow, workload, delivery requirements, and operational priorities to identify risks and prevent service disruptions.
Ensure effective communication and operational handoffs between first and second shifts, including outstanding orders, delivery priorities, routing or loading issues, inventory issues, staffing concerns, and other operational needs.
Maintain consistent warehouse processes, standards, and expectations across assigned areas.
Serve as the senior operational leader for the main warehouse during second shift and as an escalation point for operational issues requiring immediate resolution.
Lead, coach, and develop supervisors and warehouse associates across second-shift operations.
Establish clear expectations, accountability, and performance measures for warehouse teams.
Build bench strength and succession readiness by identifying and developing high-potential operational talent.
Ensure associates receive appropriate onboarding, skills training, cross-training, equipment training, and ongoing development.
Create opportunities for cross-training and career development within warehouse operations.
Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, continuous improvement, customer focus, and operational discipline.
Address performance and conduct concerns consistently and in partnership with Human Resources.
Partner with senior operations leadership and Human Resources on workforce planning, staffing strategies, scheduling, and future organizational needs.
Monitor warehouse performance, productivity, order accuracy, inventory accuracy, routing and loading effectiveness, service levels, and other key operational measures.
Develop and track performance expectations for supervisors and operational teams.
Identify root causes of operational issues and implement corrective actions to improve performance.
Identify process improvements that increase productivity, reduce unnecessary material handling, improve material and delivery flow, and minimize operational risk.
Support Lean, continuous improvement, technology, automation, and process improvement initiatives.
Ensure warehouse space, equipment, labor, and resources are effectively utilized to support business requirements.
Support capacity planning and preparation for changes in volume, customer requirements, and business growth.
Promote a strong safety culture and ensure warehouse teams consistently follow established safety practices and company standards.
Partner with Safety leadership to support OSHA requirements, equipment safety, training programs, incident prevention, and corrective actions.
Ensure associates are appropriately trained and qualified to operate material-handling equipment.
Ensure truck-loading practices support safe material handling, proper load placement and securement, vehicle capacity requirements, and established transportation and safety standards.
Identify unsafe conditions or practices and ensure timely corrective action.
Maintain working knowledge of company policies and procedures related to warehouse operations, inventory, transportation, safety, and regulatory requirements.
Build strong partnerships with Sales, Project Operations, Inventory Control, Purchasing, Transportation, Safety, Human Resources, and other warehouse leaders.
Translate daily business requirements, customer priorities, and delivery schedules into staffing, workflow, routing, loading, and operational plans for second shift.
Communicate operational issues, capacity concerns, inventory challenges, delivery risks, and service concerns to appropriate stakeholders.
Coordinate with first-shift and Transportation leadership to maintain consistent processes, expectations, and accountability across warehouse and delivery operations.
Serve as an escalation point for complex warehouse issues during second shift and lead cross-functional resolution efforts.
Maintain a high level of professionalism and customer service when working with associates, leaders, internal customers, and other stakeholders.
