About The Position

The Manager, US Crude Commercial Scheduling, will work in an open, fast-paced environment with a team of Schedulers and Traders in Houston to optimize crude oil supply throughout Phillips 66’s refining system and commercial businesses. Attention to detail and accuracy is critical. This position is a people leader within the Global Scheduling organization and reports directly to the Sr Manager, NA Crude Scheduling. This role is responsible for a team of Schedulers who manage commercial operations of the PSX Refining and Trading system, in addition to being responsible for individual crude scheduling activities for the Lake Charles desk. The Coastal team withing US Crude Scheduling consists of responsibilities for crude oil movements related to the following desks: Beaumont/Houston, US Exports, Lake Charles Refinery, Sweeny Refinery, Bayway Refinery, and Ferndale Refinery. Requirements

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher
  • 6 or more years of experience in the energy sector supporting supply, trading, or logistical functions
  • 5 or more years in a Commercial or Midstream scheduling role
  • 2 or more years of experience with waterborne operations
  • Intermediate or greater proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite skills

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise a team of schedulers responsible for logistics associated with US supply and trading activities for crude oil, including setting goals that challenge and develop schedulers, providing continuous coaching and talent enhancement opportunities, providing vacation relief coverage as needed on a 24/7 basis and assisting in managing US wide scheduler vacation relief plan, providing on-call support and being available to react to dynamic operations, at times outside of core business hours, being a champion for change management and cultivating a continuous learning culture, holding self and schedulers accountable to meeting scheduling excellence metrics, and overseeing and holding schedulers accountable to key value-impacting tasks, such as 3rd party pipeline nomination processes.
  • Act with intention and focus on value-generation for Phillips 66 Commercial and Refining, including leading scheduling resources and system operation to maximize general interest value across the assigned responsibilities with consideration to profit and operational risk, and helping create value by optimizing supply/demand portfolio, batch trading while increasing transportation efficiency and minimizing per-barrel transportation costs.
  • Oversee inventory management activities related to individually assigned desk as well as those of the scheduling team, including scheduling, nominating, and confirming movements via various distribution channels through internal and third-party scheduling systems for pipelines, tanks, rail, waterborne, and other modes of transportation.
  • Prepare and maintain daily the monthly supply/demand balance and lease forecasts required to plan around the supply, markets, and pipelines disruptions, and provide updates on positions and respond to unexpected events, making contingency plans to minimize disruption to supply or movements.
  • Manage, update, and tie out SAP with crude oil movements from nominations to shipper Balance actuals.
  • Prepare, confirm, and submit weekly system inventory levels vs targets for the Supply and Trading businesses.
  • Monitor gains/losses of physical transactions and lead investigations into significant discrepancies with appropriate external and internal counterparties, with a focus on root cause analysis and error rate reduction over time.
  • Oversee the year-end inventory process for self and team, managing to annual targets and reporting accordingly.
  • Act as a liaison between accounting/billing personnel and traders: aid in the resolution of price discrepancies, contract issues, payment terms, volume differences, etc.
  • Support resolution of Book-to-book and Book-to-Physical activities for self and team, addressing root causes where possible.
  • Cultivate and maintain internal and external counterparty relationships in support of operations.
  • Distinguish Phillips 66 as an industry leader in integrity, scheduling excellence, and professionalism.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships across Phillips 66 organizations including VCO, Midstream, Refining, and FP&A.
  • Understand and abide by the rules/requirements of regulatory reporting.
  • Prepare and submit daily written reports regarding operational status for own desk as well as team members.
  • Represent global crude scheduling in daily Commercial Leadership update meetings as required for coverage.
  • Represent scheduling team in logistics maintenance, optimization, analytics and growth opportunities.
