About The Position

The Mechanical Analysis and Test (MA&T) Department is seeking a Section Leader for the Advanced Sensors Thermal Analysis Section. The Section Leader will be responsible for all aspects of the section including staffing, development, training, hiring, succession planning, performance appraisals, compensation planning, and promotions. The Section Leader must maintain positive customer relationships, forecast the section’s labor requirements, and deploy qualified staff to support programs. The Section Leader will support and regularly communicate organizational strategies and objectives, provide technical and/or project leadership support to a wide variety of programs, and provide/review thermal analysis BOEs in support of proposal efforts. The candidate must be an expert technical advisor in thermal analysis to ensure successful program execution. He/she will provide technical/functional oversight of conceptual & detailed design of electronics hardware and other mechanical designs, along with driving thermal analysis “best practices” for the section in line with department goals. The candidate must have an outstanding ability to provide technical guidance and act as a mentor to his/her staff. The candidate must be adept at making technical presentations and establishing customer relationships and be effective at planning, budgeting, forecasting, negotiating, communication, and organization skills. This position is an onsite, full-time role based in McKinney, TX. The Section Leader will have a technical role on at least one program in addition to performing the day-today leadership of a group of thermal engineers, with the primary responsibility of ensuring that each employee has suitable work assignments and opportunities for growth and advancement. Your duties will include performance development and appraisal, salary planning, manpower planning, career coaching, weekly time-card approval, host section meetings, and ensuring adherence to company policies. You will contribute to the technical oversight of employees, monitor program execution, and provide subject matter expertise in direct support of program efforts and proposal activities. You will assist with proposal preparation including estimating the scope of new engineering projects and completion of accurate estimates.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Experience in thermal analysis with any of the following tools: ANSYS, STAR-CCM+, FloTHERM, PATRAN, Thermal Desktop/SINDA or equivalent.
  • Experience in mechanical principles to solve classical thermal analysis solutions both inside and outside of finite element tools.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. government issued security clearance.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
  • Active and existing security clearance required after day 1.

Nice To Haves

  • An advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering.
  • 10+ years of professional experience in the thermal analysis of complex systems that require collaboration across multiple engineering disciplines.
  • Experience as a technical leader and/or leader of engineering teams.
  • Ability and strong desire to facilitate career growth and knowledge transfer.
  • Ability to effectively interact with all levels and disciplines.
  • Experience in electronics cooling and aerodynamic heating analyses.
  • Experience in leading thermal testing: planning, organization, execution, data reduction and correlation.
  • Earned Value Management System knowledge.
  • Experience supporting EACs, BOEs and proposals.
  • Experience presenting to external customers.
  • Ability to travel to government and other facilities in support of program activities.
  • Advanced degree in aforementioned disciplines.
  • ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
